From what I could tell digging through his playing history, it seems like hes been primarily a CAM most recently....but in recent seasons started primarily as a d-mid and had a respectable amount of goals from that position too. He also had what I believe was his first senior national team call up to Ecuador this past September. I could see Porter seeing his as something of a central midfield swiss army knife. He could probably sub for Zelarayan, Nagbe, or Artur.
Didn’t we hear that is getting pushed a year? If so, players their ages need minutes and we can’t wait that long for them to get them.
We have two open slots, and if Vito is out for the year, potentially a third. I have no problem adding some more quality attacking depth.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...g-axel-sjberg-columbus-crew-emmanuel-boateng/ With the MLS regular season resuming this week and the transfer and trade window reopened Wednesday, D.C. United traded winger Emmanuel Boateng to the Columbus Crew for 6-foot-7 center back Axel Sjöberg, people close to the situation said." If he's speedy, we can bring back a Nordecke favorite. He's fast! He's quick!
Makes me wonder how long Vito will be out. Seems like trading Sjoberg means Porter is up to something. I remember Boatang with the Galaxy. He’s fast and he’s quick but that’s about it. I guess he will complete with Etienne for minutes.
This trade is to bring in competition for Etienne and even Diaz. They're both speedy but the decision making or final product (crosses or shots) has been woeful at times.
His name's a porno flick. Emmanuel, Emmanuel! Eh, #MeToo just died with the selection of Harris. Trump and Biden have both been accused of mistreating women and Harris said last year she believed the women accusing Biden (and if asked would almost certainly say the same about Trump). But it's been no big deal so far, the feminists are happy to have a woman on the ticket.
https://www.massivereport.com/2020/8/14/21368823/columbus-crew-acquire-grant-lillard-from-inter-miami-for-a-third-round-mls-superdraft-pick And there's the replacement CB depth. If we are relying on him to play significant minutes, we'll be in trouble.
True, but you could have said the same thing about Sjoberg. And I assume the club in no way wants him to log meaningful minutes. For reasons unknown they must see this as a step up from Sjoberg. His contract looks like it will be less of a cap hit (Sjoberg made about $175K last year, while Lillard made under $100K). Who knows. But he's clearly behind Keita and Williams on the depth chart. Obviously, international call-ups aren't something the club has to worry about as much as it did last year with a player like Mensah (or even Keita at the beginning of last year). So it's really "just" injuries. I'm also in the camp that expects Vito to be with the team next year, assuming his ankle heals properly. Which would make signing a guy like Lillard maybe make more sense. But the biggest point is that we how have another Indiana University product on the club. It's been a while, right? Someone hook him up with Danny O'Rourke for some pointers on how to win a championship here (or get red carded).
Wasn’t Morris at Indiana last year? I expect nothing from Lillard. I now expect more from Keita. Barring injuries we’ll be fine. I’d love to see a (more) quality backup striker at some point. Adi is garbage and isn’t worth $250k much less the $2M he’s actually getting paid. He won’t be here next year.
On Adi? Give it time. It often takes a little time to adjust to a new team. Mind you, if we do not see anything by the end of the season, I'd agree.
Adi has been slow for several years. He simply can't run the field. He's still a big body so he can hang around the box late in a match. He didn't do that very well during the MNUFC match but Porter should have played Adi and Zardes together.
For the record, Boatang has a Green Card, so no International spot there. Put me in the camp that views this move as somewhat of an indictment of Etienne & Diaz. Hopefully Porter becomes less rigid about playing 1 fast guy and 1 possession guy wide & is open to just play the two WMs (Santos, Mokhtar), at least some of the time. And I worry it means Mokhtar will be out for a while. Will do a full update later.
Crew are rumored to be acquiring Fatai Alashe from FC Cincy. Hard to find much info because it’s being reported by a Cincinnati Enquirer reporter on her own personal paid subscription site.
This confirms he's leaving via a trade but doesn't mention the Crew. It's confirmation that something is going on. https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sp...e-leaving-fc-cincinnati-via-trade/5597678002/
