My understanding is that there are three tiers of USL players for MLS teams. The MLS contract is essentially a loan to the USL team. These contracts have to adhere to all the rules that go with an MLS contract. There are a set amount of USL contracts where the MLS team holds "rights" to sign the player, it's not quite the two way contract of the NBA, but it's in a similar area. I cannot recall the specific limits, but I think it was four or six per team. Lastly, there are the regular USL contracts that have no MLS stipulations. It's on my list of questions I have around a Crew USL team.
I've never found specific reference, but last year when LA had four DP's on their roster everybody kept saying that they had until the day before the first game to get down to three. (Which they did)
JJ was released and Porter was talking about having four forwards meant that two wouldn't dress and hence why 5 was unnecessary. So, when is Miguel Berry signing? I assume they cut JJ to make room for Berry?
Berry signs on Pen to paper ✍️Good to have you in Columbus, @MiguelBerry92.#Crew96— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) February 27, 2020
OK, Berry official. Linky: https://www.columbuscrewsc.com/post...mls-superdraft-selection-forward-miguel-berry 27/30 spots filled. All 3 openings appear to be reserve slots. Best guesses as both MLS and the Players Union do mot have updated roster rules/salary up yet. A. Rules & Regs (2019) Link: https://www.mlssoccer.com/league/official-rules/mls-roster-rules-and-regulations B. General Stuff: 1. Salary Cap = $4,240,000 (2019) A) On Budget: Only Senior Roster Spots count against the Cap B) Players on Season Ending Injury list also count vs. the Cap, though one replacement player may be off cap under certain circumstances. C) Up to 20 Senior Roster spots. 18 must be filled. Min budget charge is made if spots 19 & 20 are not filled. D) Max budget charge is $530,000. Allocation $$ and DP rules can reduce a player's budget charge below their listed salary number. E) Off-Budget: Supplemental (21-24) and Reserve (25-30) Rosters do not count towards the salary cap. F) Salary info is from September 2019. Have to wait for the Union to post new info, usually they do 2 per year, March & September. II. Estimated Roster Compositions 1. Senior Roster: 20/18-20 Players: A) 20 Player max on Senior Roster, subject to Season Ending Injury List, Disabled List, and Loan exceptions. B) Generally, this is the highest 20 paid players, though HG players and GA players can be on other rosters. Rank, Player, Pos, Age,DOB, HT, WT, Nat, Desig(s), Base $$/Guar $$ 1. MLS site has us with 4 DPs with Zelarayan NOT among them (Zardes, Santos, Valenzuela, Diaz). In their Power Rankings, they list Chicago as an MLS original.
MLS' website is a bit of mess when it comes to this kind of information right now. There are at least three active Crew rosters you can find, each with different info: https://www.columbuscrewsc.com/players https://www.mlssoccer.com/rosters/2019/columbus-crew-sc https://www.mlssoccer.com/players?site_path=players&position=All&club=454 Leaving out the middle link - with is the last update of the 2019 roster - Diaz is listed as a designated player on the last one (the one I think you;re referring to), but not the first (the current roster shown on the Crew site). The Crew page - which seems to me the be the most up-to-date - shows Zelarayan, Zardes and Santos as DPs. I'd be surprised if Diaz was a DP this year. He was only one last year because of his transfer fee, and we should have enough garberbux laying around to buy him down in 2020. I really hope the league updates this info in the same format as we see in the middle link. It's by far the most informative.
Also heard Lampson was not 100% which explains why we got Tarbell . Surprised nobody is asking about our back up GK situation
Yes, the salary budget hit for young DPs is different, but young DPs still count toward the total DP limit of three for clubs. Diaz counted as one of our three DPs last season, due to the effect of his $1M transfer fee, not his compensation. That said, we know the roster rules will change once the new CBA goes into effect. I'm sure Bez has all the angles figured out on how to build the roster under the latest MLS scheme. I just wish we were allowed to know more about how all of this works. Silly me, I know.
Not here i mean reporters . I was here for our GK conversations. But we all expected Kempin on the bench with Tarbell as the 3rd guy who doesn’t make the 18. But we never heard much about competition for back up GK and now Kempin misses practice it’s probably nothing but if Ohio State back up QB was the subject it would be a national story .
He did sign a 2020 contract with the Crew after last season and we didn't hear anything about him being released so it's certainly possible.
I believe someone posted his Instagram post driving down a palm tree lined street. That is what I'm basing it off.
All I’ve seen was this: There is an injury to Matt Lampson that he has been working with in preseason, but it's not expected to keep him out much longer. #Crew96 expects Tarbell to compete for No. 2 job. https://t.co/2jEOzANA9P— Jacob Myers (@_jcmyers) February 19, 2020
