Some speculation seems to be a DP that could drop into TAM range next season. Will have to see when announced. I wouldn't hate that arrangement tbh.
Yeah, not ideal. But it is what it is (cliche city). We need players NOW! If he can be bought down to TAM range next season that would be good.
I mean if he performs at a DP level then I have no complaints. If he can perform at a DP level and still cost TAM, even better. If he plays like a TAM as a DP, then I'll be disappointed.
According to Tyrus. He says Mansueto wanted Pizarro but Heitz felt the money could be better used elsewhere.
I seriously have no idea, but could what Pizarro want play into this in part? Transfer money being equal, might Pizarro prefer the Beckham Experience to a reconfiguring outfut that has been reconfiguring for some number of years?
And...if the player has any input, Pizarro my want to rejoin his former coach. On top of Heitz/Wicky not being taken with him from a strictly specific skill set perspective. And f%#k Miami for several non soccer related reasons anyhow.
Fire said no to monterrey , they kept changing the deal. The lesser amount was also offered to the Fire . Its only a better deal on the surface , Monterrey will have a massive hand in the future transfer pot. Pizzaro has been open in the process he wants you be sold to Europe if the opportunity arrives . If that's after one year in MLS that's a big risk. Most of the transfer fee paid for him won't be recouped. Along with his salary youre looking at potentially 14 or so million for a season. Sorry Pizzaro is not worth that. But he didn't turn down the Fire . I didn't hear this on Twitter or through a fire staffer but a friend who works at MLS NY offices.
I like this version of what transpired much better than my usual Fire dark thoughts. And, FWIW, I agree: Pizzaro isn't worth ~$14M for one year. Not even close. Way too risky of a deal. That said, I expect Pizzaro to have a stellar season.
His 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 23 games excites you? If this guy was any other nationality no one would want him let alone at a dp status.
Come on, if people are going to go crazy about Pizarro, you need to know the basics of him. Pizarro is a #10. No chance he could play CDM
No, like tyrus said he’s a 10 who can play as a winger. I don’t think people realize how often this guy disappears during games.
Have we signed: A left wing A CAM A better CD A starting RB A star DP Yet? No, okay I will check back later.
No, but the Fire will compete in a lot of games while still failing to make the playoffs. Isn't that enough?
I readily profess complete ignorance of all these guys playing in other countries. Confused Pizzaro w/a CDM we were looking at (Spanish surnames). As to Pizarro's production, that's a big red flag for a #10/winger.
I do kinda think MLS with its "don't spend too much on defense" philosophy throughout the league will be the perfect place for him though. He does seem like kind of a diva though, so he might also turn out to be a spectacular bust. Time will tell. Miami's roster still looks like it needs some holes filled.
Aliseda is very two-footed, that's nice to see. Neither Ljubicic or Aliseda is an earth-shattering addition, but they both appear to be decent enough players who fill obvious holes. I hope the Boris Sekulic thing can still happen. I think the biggest item on my wish list from there would be an experienced MLS midfielder who can play one of the #8 spots. Go find that and a 3rd good CB you can start to squint and see a winning team here. Still very much missing a talisman though.
Compete? Just showing up is technically competing. Failing to make the playoffs is not only not good enough, but completely unacceptable.
