One has nothing to do with the other. The first article is based on an interview, with lots of quotes and paraphrases, and the second is just speculation based on naval contemplation. The court will not admit this as evidence, and the jury is admonished to ignore the statement.
In that article the author points out that someone on twitter was the first to point out Tommy would become a free agent. However we were discussing that fact the day before right here on BS: New CBA deal https://www.bigsoccer.com/index.php?posts/38481939/

lots of memories, our first season of the Fisher-era. The start of the Designated Players rule(s). 40,000 people showed up. I think we won that one thanks to some help from Hucks. we brought a first-timer (she wanted to see Beckham) and her young (maybe 5yo) son, we were standing right there in the midst of the chanting, we still get a laugh out of that to this day... ...Beckham was a phenomenon when he arrived. Packed houses to see him across MLS, and, of course, he went on to help LA to two titles. The era of the DP arrived with a bang. Fisher still hasn't got the memo.
As I recall, Quakes lost the first Oakland game in 2008 to LA, but won the second one, after Hucks' arrival.
Sources tell me that #Quakes74 goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell has been dealt to #Crew96 for an undisclosed (< 100k) amount of allocation money. Guy definitely needed a fresh start. He should get it in Columbus.— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) February 19, 2020
I was thinking the first game was vs Chicago. The second was LA, most memorable for the thousands of flashes every time Beckham took a corner (as shown in the tweet). And the chatter of the groupies behind us who knew nothing about soccer.
Quakes played three games at Oakland in 2008. Versus Chicago in April (0-1 loss, @falvo remembers ), and versus LA Galaxy in June (0-3 loss) and again in August (3-2 win). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_San_Jose_Earthquakes_season
If true, it was long overdue. Too much water under the bridge in SJ. This also has to energize JT. He’s got to be hungry to play some MLS games. Maybe the Quakes have someone coming in and need the roster spot?
As I posted , when he gave me the shirt at the meet and greet, I almost came out and told him about his miss but didn’t have the heart! Gotta love Shea! Go Salinas Jaguars! I can see him there as a player /coach along with Ramiro in a year or so!

The only event I'm looking forward to is the release of the MLS TV season schedule. Why the delay this year?
https://old.reddit.com/r/MLS/comments/f6fc0d/mlssoccercoms_official_2020_predictions/ 1 in 7 has us above the playoff line...
Ahh to live in soccer city where our greatest goal every year is just to get a whiff of the playoffs.
I mean, you're asking for an impossible thing here. You obviously can't actually predict the future, so models are based on what information is available, which by definition, had to have occurred in the past. Now, how much value any particular prediction depends upon the quality of the data available. Not sure how this strength of schedule was put together, so I can't speak to it directly, but you can often come up with pretty good models that have a good deal of accuracy. Also, remember that predictive models in sports are largely for entertainment purposes. If you look at win expectancy and then expect that the actual results are going to match up every single time, then you don't really understand what's interesting about them. They are never and could never be fortune tellers, so don't be disappointed when they don't tell you the future.
