We really all hope so, but you HAVE to admit that the experience of the past 12 years would tend to make even the least cynical observer question your last sentence...
Imagine having a father who was not a sports fan and needing to endlessly explain the logic of rooting for the home team.
I don't got no season tickets. Jesse still talks to me if I call him. Like Don, I don't ask for inside information. I've told him I hope you're looking for X kind of player, I hope you're looking at these positions, and he may or may not comment on that. But basically, most of the front office folks will talk to you if you reach out. Speaking of which, I should write to Jared and ask about Tom Fox. There's an idea! But unlike Don, I think 2020 is going to suck big time. We need to make some improvements, and we haven't done that. I don't want a frigging four-year plan, I want to win now. I wanted to win now three seasons back, so I'm way more than disappointed and pissed off. I'm losing interest. Go Quakes!! - Mark
Ten biggest roster holes to fill across MLS -- and Quakes don't make the list. (They're trolling us.) https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...ft-fill-across-mls-2020-arrives-charles-boehm
Yes, because everybody knows that mlssoccer.com is utterly truthful, comprehensive, and unbiased. I never visit the website or look at their news, because it sucks really, really hard...
No. Everything will not work itself out. Every team needs to put in work and effort in order to improve. No I don't doubt that Jesse and Matias are capable people, and they could definitely lead us to glory ... if only they had more resources. We need some improvements to our roster, as last season ably demonstrated. Even had we not gotten screwed by the refs down the stretch, last season's team wasn't good enough to compete consistently with the best in MLS. We are not putting in the necessary effort and work in order to improve. Now I'm hoping that the team are still looking for reinforcements and just being quiet about it. That would be fine by me. Instead, they said that they think they are set. (And then you, I think, found a little nugget in a different article that they are in fact looking for another CB.) But even if we are looking for another CB, we still need an actual left back, another quality forward, and a real CAM. None of which are even contemplated by the team - as far as we can tell. And we can't tell very far because they don't say much. Not completely silent, a little more talkative than Calvin Coolidge, but not much. Go Quakes!! - Mark
They aren't trolling us. They don't give a f@#$ about us! We don't rate. "Who cares what they do in San José?! They won't be contenders no matter what, and we don't give a crap about them anyway." THAT is how you should interpret that article. It's all about those teams that MLSsoccer writers like and think will be top teams in the coming season. They do not care about the also-ran, cannon fodder teams of the league, and that's us! Go Quakes!! We stink and we don't care that we stink!! - Mark
I didn't see a lot wrong/bias with the article. It was mainly about teams that lost impact players, or the expansion teams fleshing out their roster. The other two were Chicago , where they wondered what their vision was going to be after getting a new technical staff and stadium, and NYFC, which is still without a coach. Geez, maybe the article writers see that having a year under their belt with Matias, and enough pieces in place, that the Quakes don't have a glaringly large hole to fill.
thanks for the chuckles. Danny H is going to score buckets of goals, TT will get loads of assists and Shea Salinas will finally mature into that LB role he was born for. lololol! we are going to get slaughtered, right out of the gate...and we're not on these writers radar because Quakes are a non-factor, we barely exist, not-even-a-blip, not because they think we're poised for greatness out here...c'mon you can't really believe that.
Don is like the defense attorney who must do his job regardless of his belief in his clients' guilt or innocence. the evidence in this case is completely overwhelming - Quakes under Fisher and Wolff have been excruciatingly awful for as long as anyone can remember - a trend that is sure to continue into 2020 barring significant reinforcements to our player roster. This team looks more ridiculously mickey mouse with each passing year.
I've already stipulated Fisher is guilty of being a cheapskate. His co-defendants deserve separate trials.
Oh man - my academic background (undergrad) was accounting. If I started incorporating that into my posts, I'll bet I could shut down every thread in here, as it would drive everybody screaming from BigSoccer!
Fisher is running the show, calling the shots, his co-defendants are but mere pawns in his long-term scam to defraud the good soccer loving folks of SJ...I think we agree on that. I rarely take shots at players, coaches, GM's and, when we used to have one, team presidents...they are all marginalized and ineffective because of the tiny box fisher keeps them in...fisher really has to go.
Apparently Colorado doesn’t have any holes to fill either. They currently have 0 DPs. Are they going to be cup contenders this year? I’d rather be in the company of teams that MLS.com thinks has holes than the group of teams that didn’t even get mentioned.
FWIW, I'll be at the 2020 season opener on Feb 29. No signings, status quo with an owner who's completely blowing MLS in San Jose/Bay Area...but I'll be there and have a great time regardless!!
I think of Fisher as more of plague of termites, with some dry rot thrown in for good measure, slowly destroying our franchise from the inside out and never making much in the way of noise. All the while, the structure is becoming weaker and weaker...
excellent analogy. season ticket sales numbers would probably provide us with a great illustration of this...I'd be willing to bet, once you remove the $280 season ticket giveaways, the number of people buying season tickets for over $500/seat has dried up completely and probably declined dramatically since the opening of the stadium formerly known as Avaya. I too will occasionally go to games, maybe even the season opener, haven't decided yet, but I'll buy the $25 sit-anywhere-you-want tickets... …terribly unfortunate but I'm not committing to a whole season until this team is committed to competing in MLS.
I guess you didn't really read the article. Most of it was about teams that lost key players. What key player did we lose? Godoy? Cummings? Affolter? Can you now see why the Quakes weren't included in the article? I never said we didn't need to improve our roster, but, that wasn't really the gist of the article, was it? It was about filling a vacancy that happened.
by Quakes standards, Godoy and Cummings are big holes that need filling. Quakes also have a big defensive hole which Salinas has tried heroically to plug and, a big offensive hole in the shape of potent goal scorer...our team is riddled with holes. it makes more sense that the writer overlooked SJ because of our complete irrelevance, not because they have "...a year under their belt with Matias, and enough pieces in place, that the Quakes don't have a glaringly large hole to fill."
