Can I have three guesses as to which league you are a fan of?

VAR in England has reversed some nice looking “goals” from offside armpits. I think they’re getting the calls correct by the law as written but it doesn’t seem in the spirit of the game...fans like goals.

I saw it floated on Twitter to change the law to only considering feet. I like that idea. It would be easier for ARs where there is no VAR and computer analysis. And it’ll put an end to the armpit problem.

Sorry folks, it's the best league in the world. Falvo is just jealous that not nearly as many people want to watch Serie A, (and btw, what a dumb name). Let me guess, the league below it Serie B? What? It is?

Wow, so defensive. Didn't realize you were English. Even though this has nothing to do with the thread, I'm not jealous at all. I actually use to follow English League and their players closely but haven’t followed or cared for it since the 1980’s and early 90's. "EPL" is a made up 1990’s catch phrase as England for over 100 years went by the First , Second , Third and Fourth Divisions. The Championship is a second level , League One a third and League Two is a 4th.....like that makes a lot of sense....

Anyway, I believe it's exciting enough but like longtime English soccer journalist/ pundit Paul Gardner , I don't like watching a league that constantly employs long ball passes, continuous meaningless crosses into the box , zone defenses where defenders can’t , don’t or won’t man mark , get beat badly and have almost no defensive tactic with subpar GK’s.

With the exception of a select few, there is a reason why most English or British players struggle and can't play in Italy, Germany or Spain. Closer to home , English players (other that the short lived Wayne Rooney) haven’t done much in MLS since 1996 either. I must admit though , I do give Chris Smalling a lot of credit for having played well at Roma this season and becoming the first English player to hold his own in Italy since Paul Ince played for Inter over 22 years ago.

Back to talking about what is in my opinion more important, our 2020 Quakes (and) Looking ahead to next season...

Lol, If you think it is all long passes and meaningless crosses into the box then you really haven't watched the league for 30-40 years. There is a wide variety of styles played which is what makes the games interesting, but, the trend is definitely to a more continental style, which is a reflection of the managers you have in the league, like Guardiola, Klopp, Mourinho, Nuno Santo, Benitez.....
And unlike MLS, the infusion of so many foreign players has made the English players a lot better, with 6 of the top 7 scorers in the league this year being English.

I've seen the drastic improvement of English players in all their World and Euro Cup wins. Heck if Jozy Altidore didn't hit the post, the USA will have beaten them in 2010. In my opinion, English, Irish and Scottish players were very dominant in the 70's and 80's but not so much anymore.

Anyway, to each his own but again, don't see a reason to be so defensive nor do I care about talking about the English League in a Quakes 2020 thread...

    Moving on......

My whole issue with English futbol is that they are in England, so I’m not going to get to see them unless I go to England. Similarly, I don’t watch a lot of foreign leagues, some Mexican games here and there, I watched Costa Rican futbol when I was there, but otherwise, I don’t follow leagues outside the States.

It’s got nothing to do with me liking or not liking how they play. Though I do think they let too many fouls go.

    Go Quakes!!

Why should I care about Manchester or Liverpool or one or other neighborhood in London? I don't get the fixation with the EPL from anyone who is not an English ex-pat. @falvo following Serie A makes more sense, since he's actually lived in Italy.

I always do a double take when people talk to me about the Quakes and ask what other soccer teams I follow. None, I say. I root for San Jose. Why is rooting for the hometown team so hard to understand?

So why do you care so much about the p
The English language makes most Americans think the EPL is God’s Gift and more important than it is.

Personally, I follow the Serie A only to a point because I lived in Florence and worked at Fiorentina but I also care mostly about MLS and more important my/our Quakes. I’m not going to get my jollies seeing Liverpool beat up Leicester City or Bournemouth vs. Burnley. Don’t see the lure nor do I want to waste my time..

In other news, apparently the no-jersey-sponsor Quakes will be playing in the no-name stadium in 2020. Sure shows you a lot about the ambitiousness of this team...

I follow other teams because I wanted to satisfy my curiosity of knowing what the best teams play like.

I would watch Barcelona except that I don’t get that channel. Therefore I follow Liverpool. When I started following them they weren’t the best and now they are- so it’s been very satisfying and a very different experience from watching the Quakes. They’re kinda the yin and yang and I find I like having that balance.

Please no more players like Simon Dawkins and Jordan Stewart.......

Collegiately, whatever the sport, I root for my alma mater San José State University (GO SPARTANS!). :)

Professionally, I have one favorite team in each of this country's five major pro leagues. You can ascertain from my current tagline which teams those are. ;)

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

I use to like hanging out at the Britania Arms in Cupertino and Almaden before cable TV and MLS started and watched a lot of the English League games. Never went to the one in Aptos or dowtown though.

The Almaden Brit used to be the San Jose Bills Backers bar, but when I tried to go there earlier this month to see the Bills / Ravens game at 10 a.m., it was closed, and a sign said it would not open until 11 a.m. Highly curious on an NFL Sunday. So, I headed to the Brit downtown, instead.

So, what's your home town, San Jose or Buffalo?:)

And btw, have you noticed the tagline I have had for about ten years? ;) Nothing wrong watching other leagues. Just like I watch and read world news and not just local news.
