Sure, but Ken Horowitz is to Ron Burkle what Pee-wee Herman is to Andre the Giant. Burkle's a billionaire. If he "missed" the $200M expansion fee payment, it's not because he can't scrape up the funds. Something else is going on behind the scenes between Sac and MLS. Just a wild guess, but maybe they want to delay their $200M payment since they've had to delay entry into the league by one year.
I saw somewhere he was coaching an USL club in Ft Lauderdale so I assumed he no longer was the U23 coach. Could be wrong of course...
I just dont understand why they'd want Armas. Yes he took over the team 3 years ago in mid season and managed not to screw it up and they won the shield. But he took the exact same group the next year and they couldn't score to save their lives. The players hated him, the locker room. was in mutiny and they fired him halfway through the following season. He made his name playing that high press defense that won the occasional game but only enough to finish, like, sixth a year ago. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy TFC hired him, I just can't imagine why. The guy was a high school phys ed teacher until a couple years go. Ezra Hendrickson. has been an assistant since 2007, a USL head coach for a few years and worked under Sigi and Caleb and was an assistant on 2 Cup winners. Armas? He's never done a damn thing.
Not to mention, NYRB is run very, very differently from how TFC is run. NYRB has been one of the MLS clubs that's been more focused on youth development via its academy and USL teams. Not to mention its broader association with Red Bull GmbH. TFC has made a name for itself for always one of the league's biggest salary budgets. Paying out huge transfer fees and some of the highest DP salaries in the league. NYRB normally has one of the lowest roster budgets in the league. Arms has no experience coaching in the kind of big-spending environment TFC is.
The new "Club de Foot Montreal" logo just popped up on the MLS website. I'll take, "How not to re-brand a sports franchise" for $400, Alex.
I don't think it's my favorite but it's not at the bottom. I just watched the announcement on their site that explains the design elements and they make sense - for someone who is from there - just like our crest makes sense for us.
I just don't get the need to rebrand. The name and logo are really not the problems it would seem. Put a team on the field that's any good and some resources around them and you might see a different community response. Hell, isn't that what we are learning right now?
I was actually okay with it until I read this. I mean, I don't like that everything is becoming FC whatever or whatever FC and would have preferred they keep their history with Impact. But the snowflake logo seemed alright. Then I get to the first bullet point here: Oh... didn't realize those were M's at first glance. Okay, that's kinda cool. Second bullet point: Wait... what?!?! Are you yanking my crank? The arrows are because you have a metro system? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. 3rd: Fluer de Lys... alright, french connection, i get it. 4th: Yeah, blue, keeping the old colors, cool. Wait, what? Oh, you have rivers? Well that makes sense, very unique to Quebec that they have rivers. Don't find those anywhere else. I really hope this is an instance of coming up with a reason/meaning after the fact
I actually like the logo. I think it's cool. I can't wrap my head around Club de Foot. I have to say, though... I've been as outspoken as anyone about the whole Inter FC United SC Real CF Sporting stuff. But when this was revealed, I didn't have much of a reaction. I guess I'm more accepting now. I don't feel the need to europose myself, but I'm not really losing sleep anymore over the fact that MLS clubs are embracing worldwide soccer culture. As long as promotion and relegation keeps its distance.
