I’ve always hated that way of describing it. A referee enforces then laws as written by the people in charge and they are somehow the villain. Makes no sense. If the lawmakers didn’t want it called then make it legal and stop trying to pass the buck on the blame.
I know. But I work with and am around enough soccer fans that always say stupid stuff like, “the ref ruined the game with that red card”. Inherently I always ask what happens and they tell me. “So you know the card was correct right” eye rolls in my direction. “Yeah but it ruins the game.” Ok then.
