Has Brooke Mayo had a lot of AVAR assignments before? I can’t remember ever seeing her name there.

This is her 3rd game at AVAR. She's also been AR 3 times.

FYI this is the only game MLS will consider to be "week 20" so we may want to add week 21 (Thursday–Sunday) to this thread for simplicity's sake.

I'm fine with us combining, just going off what PRO lists when I post.

    Makes sense.
I should have said "I think" because I'm making an educated guess.

Looks like it's all week 20 after all so you can all go back to safely ignoring me.

Elfath inadvertently took Jordy Delem out of the game with a reverse clothesline and/or elbow. Really unfortunate.

Never seen anything like that. I've had positioning issues with youth players before but this was something different. Elfath himself seemed a bit hurt but clearly stayed in the match. Hope Delem is okay.

Jon Freemon and Elton Garcia on the USL Conference Finals last night. Any predictions for the final?

Anyone see the larger context to this? https://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/m...mi-cf-vs-orlando-city-sc/details/video/245741

Did Nani's behavior get addressed at all? Because, whew... that isn't good.

In other news, looks like Cincinnati got screwed late again from an incorrect referee decision. Don't like to see those go against the same team in a row like that. I'm sure it will lead to some calls about VAR reviewing corner kick decisions.

I’ve long thought that was a “when” not “if” logical expansion for VAR. video review tends to expand, and as expansions go, that wouldn’t be huge. You’d expect it to be rare that it caused a meaningful delay (should not require an OFR) and it can be a significant decision. (I’m not advocating, but I think it is an inevitable expansion. I’m still in the camp that we’re better off without VAR, but I don’t see any real world future in which that will happen.)

Well, it's already assigned so it wouldn't be a prediction at this point.

You seriously expect this to get addressed by the league or the referee involved?

Certainly, the referee involved wouldn't do anything about it. There might be three or four referees in the entire league that would do anything about which is produce a red card there.

Didn't Nani last year practically head butt a referee or came within inches of headbutting a referee and maybe only got a yellow?

What you allow, you encourage. Why wouldn't he push the boundaries of how he treats referees?

He attempted to headbutt a Rapids player in front of the ref. Go no card and the DisCo took no action.

It was Nani who chest bumped Pierre-Luc Lauzière in the latter's debut match. He was cautioned but later suspended for 2 games to start the 2020 season.

The headbutting incident was against a player and was not sanctioned as Jason noted above. I can't remember if PRO wanted it reviewed, though.

In a rare game on ABC, the announcers said replay showed LAFC lost the ball out of play that should have given an LAG corner kick, but there wasn't a call, and LAFC scored, which was helped by the attacker being kept onside by an LAG player arguing that the ball had gone out. Taylor Twellman said that the VAR must have ruled that the entire part of the ball touching the ground was out, but some of the ball above the ground was in play or was inconclusive. It's the same issue I asked about when the Red Bulls beat NYCFC 1-0 on August 20. If LAFC wins 1-0, the same type of call will have allowed goals in 1-0 wins in two rivalry games.
