I was about to bring that up. He just blew straight past both LAFC center backs with the ball at his feet.
The slow pass from Ruidiaz... If he hits that with more pace the LAFC player stops it. But he was off balance with momentum going the wrong way so he was no longer in position due to the slow pass giving time for his bodies momentum to take him out of reach of the ball.
I called that before it happened. LAFC gets it out wide, good cross -- it's a carbon copy of the first goal. The question is whether or not it counts...
I was thinking. Nouhou was shutting down any crosses coming near his area. Now that LAFC are sending from his side to where Nouhou isn't they are having more success.
The commentators mention LAFC's missing players but don't mention what may be the most boneheaded move by any MLS team in 2020: trading away Walker Zimmerman.
They also didn't mention the fact that the Sounders were missing three starters as well.....Leerdam, Svensson, and Arreaga.
I think it's a little more complicated than that. Let's not forget that he's a Seattle native...why would any player leave his hometown team when they're contending for titles every season? I think he will move to Europe at some point, but it's gotta be the right situation. Morris is not going to give up what he has with the Sounders to go play for an unstable club that changes managers & tactics every six months or where he's not guaranteed playing time. Look at what happened to DeAndre Yedlin.....
Or waiting to see which way the taker turns his hips and/or whether he opens up his body before committing to go one direction or the other. If you watch the taker's body carefully, you can figure out which way he's going half a second before he strikes the ball.
Neither LA team has ever been able to defend....that's why they never win anything. They invest all their $$$ in big name attackers, but ignore the defense. This is the fourth consecutive season that LAFC has been eliminated in a playoff game by allowing 3 goals....you'd think the front office would learn at some point.
Perfect example of why he'd be great in the #9 role for the USMNT. He'd force the center backs to stay close to him and defend the long ball over the top because of his speed, which would open up tons of space for Pulisic, Reyna, etc.
Hey I'm new to this, so basically for example in the East Conference teams play in these playoffs and the winner plays the regular season champion? So Philadelphia would get to play twice (playoffs and finals)?
Is there a league rule that the Defender of the Year has to be someone traded / sold from his previous club before the season started? I'm detecting a pattern beginning to emerge, is all...
No, the playoffs are separated into two conferences (east and west) and the winners of each side of the bracket (like the World Cup format) play a final championship game (called MLS Cup). The regular season standings determine each team's seed for the playoffs.
