He’s 48. Joe Namith is 78. Brady is 44 and still playing, Oscar is certainly in good shape.

And he went to the hospital for three days.

Discount that all you want I guess.

Your point was about athletes, soccer players in particular, and making a corollary between an active 20 something and Oscar de le Hoya, a retired fighter.

Tom Brady still works out a couple hours every day. He is an active professional athlete. There, like, a difference.

It’s hard to draw parallels with any of it, quite frankly.

    True enough.

Apropos of very little, it used to be that after a big fight boxers would head straight to the bar and the burger joint and the sofa and gain 25 pounds.

Then their manager would book another fight in six months and the fighter would go into "camp" with all his hangers on and train, running miles and miles, eating decent food and carving off.the weight for the next boutique. They did it.over and over .

It used to be axiomatic that the worst conditioned people.on Earth were boxers between fights. The could.of course still beat crap out of you but not if they had to chase you very far.

Myers says the Surrender Monkey may arrive next week and needs to get into shape. Maybe plays early October.

    Watching the Browns vs KC.

The thing thats striking is that they came out of the tunnel kicking ass. Not even a hint of conservative, ball posession offense. It's pedal to the metal, balls to the wall, stop us if you can m*therf*cker, take no prisoners football.

Maybe they win maybe they lose but it sure as hell is more entertaining than watching 90 minutes of Porterball. The Haslams should pay attention.

You want to.fill that fancy ass stadium? Give the fans some excitement, some fight, some guts. An identity.

Charging people sky high prices and then boring them to death is a recipe for a lot of empty seats.

    Both are correct.

"Surrender Monkeys" has what are considered valid references in 1815, 1940, 1942, 1962, 1963, 1987 and beyond 1995 by European journalists, as propaganda tropes in Indochina, Algeria, and Egypt, and many vague callbacks from many regions in the world to denote the debatable strategies of the French military.

The far more popular "Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys" was used by Groundskeeper Willie and coined by writer Ken Keeler in a 1995 episode of The Simpsons.

Well, to be fair in 1815 they didn't Surrender so much as get their asses kicked by the Prussians, after which the Duke of Wellington took all the credit and became a hero.

And in 1942 they did in fact fight back a little in North Africa but it was Americans they were shooting at which never made any sense.

The foundation date is of course 1940 when they invited the Germans to drink their wine and screw their women while they rounded up the Jews for them. Then of course after George Patton showed up with the 3rd army, whose soldiers had more money than the Bosch ever dreamed of, they shaved a few women's heads and claimed that they had all been members of the resistance all along.

Reminds me of the old quiz question about who won the first Tour de France.

Apparently "the Third Panzer Army" is not correct.

And without them we'd not have won our independence.

Never really understood the French hate thing. Personally, I think it's because the French can be insufferable about their supposed superiority. Just like Americans.

Familiarity breeds contempt, and all that.

I dont know that it's hate so much. No reason for us to be angry. It's mostly contempt for gutless behavior.

It's true that their record in wars since Napoleon is pretty terrible, and even the one they purportedly won - WWI - they fought so badly and got so many men needlessly slaughtered and were on the brink.of destruction when Pershing showed up.with a few million Doughboy and turned the tide.

But WWII was just the epitome of craven behavior.

They had a bigger army, more and better tanks, more and better planes and were.fighting on the defensive, but let the Nazis roll right over them. Poor Churchill was beside himself watching the biggest army in Europe just say to hell with it and surrender.

It's not hatred or propaganda its simply the truth; when you surrender your entire.country to a bunch of barbarians to rape, plunder and murder their way around for five years you can't expect a ton.of respect for your fighting spirit.

They did also make the classic mistake in WW II (no, not fighting a land war in Asia): they were fighting the last war. Guderian and Rommel had other ideas. So did Patton, later on.

So it occurred to me last night that while Columbus made off season moves that were the talk of the town - and the league - in Molino, BWP and Kitchen. none of them has contributed a goddam thing.

Collectively they have been nothing but a huge money furnace.

But what's more, some other acquisitions were turning in major performances last night: Abdul Salaam was a monster; it seemed like he was everywhere. Fraser was just a stud in the middle, Matan showed some serious chops, and had the RB defenders talking to themselves, and Berry, who was sent out to San Diego, won the damn game.

    All for pocket change.

    Soccer is a funny game.

    This x 1000.

We need to lock Liam Frasier up. No idea what kind of length his contract is but it isn't long enough.

Matan needs to start and Berry + Zardes up top needs to happen.

I've said a couple times that we could make a decent team with Room, Mensah, Zelarayán and the sub 25 year old players on the roster. Really, only if Morris, Artur, and Valenzuela can return to somewhere near their best or in the case of Morris, build on where he left off.

That would include Frazier, Keita, Matan, Berry, Parente. Fill in with a couple DPs and a decent free agent and you're on to something.

And it seems that Erik Hurtado has been relegated to the seat next to Lillard's at the end of the bench where the coach never looks.

Is there an expansion Draft next year? St Louis maybe? Cause those boys are prime candidates.

I'm thinking a 3-5-2 might work if Pedro can get back and play left wing back.
