Voted draw... Sounds like there's quite a few injuries on the team at the moment. While the week of rest will be helpful I'm still a little worried about the midfield being tired as well.
No Illsinho, Elliot, Santos, Creavalle or Kai tonight Presenting tonight’s Starting XI with a little help from our friends at @KissesForKyle! 💛📝👉 https://t.co/juRG2U6zNm#KickChildhoodCancer | #DOOP pic.twitter.com/CK6C457O0G— Philadelphia Union (@PhilaUnion) September 12, 2020
Watching the game. It is so sad to see our seats covered up. I really want to get back to the stadium. Once it is safe to do so.
The team has a good record, but 8 or 9 players are the same every game. Strikers, fullbacks rotated a little. Always same 4 in midfield. Especially with this compressed season, feels like something has to give. 2nd goal was an absolute banger. Time for the obligatory 'academy-product-to-Europe' talk?
I read on twitter that Fontana has been staying late in training to work on that shot recently. Nice to see his hard work pay off.
We all know Curtin put Fontana in because he didn't have other options. He might STAY in the lineup based on last nights performance but he got in because Ilsinho and Santos were not available. (Might have even put Crevalle in there first had he been available)
God, Wooten is terrible. Another pickup from the BigSoccer USMNT board philosophy of Europe = good, MLS = bad.
Wooten’s inability to put a shot on frame in the first few minutes after a beautiful pass from Mbaizo squashed any remaining hope I’d had that he might contribute this year. On a positive note, Fontana’s blast of a goal is probably in my top 15 Union goals of all time (although I’m too lazy to actually compile a list).
Mbaizo makes bad decisions under pressure, but to be fair, he is playing out of position. I would think they’d be better off trying Gaddis on the left given his experience. Martinez passing was terrible as well, not only giving the ball away, but losing it in dangerous areas of the field. As far as Fontana goes, I’m just not sure who he would replace in the lineup unless Martinez were benched. I have always seen him as possibly the eventual Bedoya replacement, I’m just not sure where he would fit in this team in this formation.
Well good thing Fontanna plays Striker and CAM.......oh that's right...he plays the same positions as Bedoya and Montiero, neither of which Fontana should replace in the Starting 11 at this stage of their respective careers.
