The Club World Cup lives! Qatar will host it from February 1st to the 11th. Cue the OFC scrambling to find a representative
Awesome Can't wait... met some Perth Glory players today at the beach lol.... guess will root for them. Hopefully we can attend....
I would have just given the OFC the prize money for 7th place and played it with six teams. But they allotted the usual ten days which means the opening playoff between host and OFC will take place. Just invite Hienghène back.
They play against Shanghai Shenhua tomorrow. I see kick-off times are geared towards the East Asian audience. 1 and 4 pm Doha time. Makes sense I suppose even if it makes it difficult for me to watch any games outside the weekend.
Yeah it's pretty exciting... Busan Hyundai bus keeps coming into my university, guess they are using our training pitch.. police escort and all lol.... El Shaarawy plays for Shanghai, will keep an eye out for him around town...
6PM and 9PM for Perth viewers, and 9PM and midnight for me. My team has 3 9PM matches and one midnight match.
Well that's auk-ward... I knew San Jose had a team, didn't know Oakland had one... just kidding, just kidding.... Honestly, wouldn't be too surprised if they wind up beating Al Duhail in that first game. Duhail have been in terrible form since losing the Qatar Cup to Al Sadd last February. It's too bad, in fact, kind of erm, sadd that Al Sadd won't be playing in this tournament as they've really hit their stride this season and seem to be blowing everyone out of the water domestically at least, including Duhail. Carzola is fitting in very nicely into Xavi's system and I think Sadd would have shown much better this year than last. But I doubt Duhail do much.
Updated participant list: UEFA: FC Bayern München (Germany) CONMEBOL: TBD (Final: Jan 2021) CONCACAF: TBD (Final: Dec 22) AFC: TBD (Final: Dec 19) CAF: TBD (Final: Nov 27) OFC: Auckland City FC (New Zealand)* Host: Al Duhail Sports Club (Qatar) *Nominated by the OFC Executive Committee Up next in about a week, the CAF final.
Libertadores final set for 30th of January, one day before CWC: http://www.insideworldfootball.com/...ertadores-final-day-club-world-cup-kicks-off/ Talk about giving yourself scheduling flexibility in case something goes wrong. The CONMEBOL Executive Committee may also have to spring into action.
What could possibly go wrong though? It's not like they've had to delay Copa Libertadores finals before and reschedule them at neutral venues somewhere in like say Doha, or Madrid....
Tomorrow Friday is the CAF CL final. The Cairo derby played in the city of Cairo (without spectators). Apparently six players will miss out due to Covid-19: https://www.france24.com/en/live-ne...st-positive-before-caf-champions-league-final Al Ahly are looking to extend their African record to nine titles (last in 2013) while Zamalek are aiming for their 6th title (last in 2002). Zamalek have never played in the CWC.

Al Ahly win their 9th CAF Champions League and will play in Doha. Just when it looked like the match was headed for extra time they won it with an excellent strike in the 86th minute...
Updated participant list: UEFA: FC Bayern München (Germany) CONMEBOL: TBD (Final: Jan 30) CONCACAF: TBD (Final: Dec 22) AFC: TBD (Final: Dec 19) CAF: Al Ahly Sporting Club (Egypt) OFC: Auckland City FC (New Zealand)* Host: Al Duhail Sports Club (Qatar) *Nominated by the OFC Executive Committee
Al Duhail finally have a club shop .... https://www.duhailsc.com/en/football/news/17073-افتتاح-متجر-النادي-الرسمي.html went by but no XXL jerseys lol..... but I guess they've finally made the bigtime here in Qatar with an official club shop.... I wonder though if they'll actually play world club cup games at their home stadium. I'm thinking not as it's not accessible via metro....
I'm not so sure this one will be played with spectators. So from that point of view metro access (or stadium capacity) are not that important regarding Al Duhail's stadium. Shame really, battles like the following would have been great to see in the stands: FIFA.com on Twitter: " ⚽️ ️ @AlAhly @Flamengo ⚫️ Which club is more passionately supported?" / Twitter
So Flamengo just went out to Racing in the Copa Libertadores, so as far as I know this confirms we are going to have a completely new set of teams in this year's tournament. Not sure whether fans will be allowed to attend. Whether or not the borders will be open / travel is doable is another question, but at least for local attendance. They are letting fans into stadiums albeit at reduced capacity to local games here. Just applied for my Emir Cup final tickets at the newly opened Al Rayyan WC Stadium. Maybe that'll be used in the CWC too....
Good to hear FIFA are listening to me! It made a lot of sense to continue the current format for another year - and hosting it in Japan (the competition's "home") also makes sense.
The final eight are set in East Asia: Beijing Guoan (China) - FC Tokyo (Japan) Ulsan Hyundai (S. Korea) - Melbourne Victory (Australia) Vissel Kobe (Japan) - Shanghai SIPG (China) Yokohama F. Marinos (Japan) - Suwon Bluewings (S. Korea) Guangzhou Evergrande failed in the group stage. Speaking of, they will have to change their name next season as the Chinese FA has ordered an end to "corporate branding" for clubs.
Beijing Guoan (China) - FC Tokyo (Japan) 1:0 Ulsan Hyundai (S. Korea) - Melbourne Victory (Australia) 3:0 Vissel Kobe (Japan) - Shanghai SIPG (China) 2:0 Yokohama F. Marinos (Japan) - Suwon Bluewings (S. Korea) 2:3 Andres Iniesta on the scoreboard for Kobe. Xavi, another former Barcelona legend, could never win the AFC CL with Al Sadd. Can Iniesta pull it off? Up next: Ulsan Hyundai (S. Korea) - Beijing Guoan (China) Vissel Kobe (Japan) - Suwon Bluewings (S. Korea)
