This seems clear now Bidens lead is rock solid at +7 or more. Trump's only option is to cheat then dispute the outcome. Trump isn't trying to win. He's trying to get within cheating distance. Many top officials are placing their official duties and the levers of government at the disposal of his effort to hold power while losing the popular vote. I compiled 7 big examples:https://t.co/PFeV9lujwJ— Greg Sargent (@GregTSargent) September 14, 2020
No, you're assuming that we know all the arguments of all the podcasters that you're listening to. I can't speak for the crowd but I emphatically don't. As a PR person, surely you must see how asinine that is?
I don't expect you to understand the argument. That is why I sourced it to her. However some of these people have been mentioned a lot in recent months and it has been explained several times who they are - including by me.
I will reply this with a 3 part answer: 1. In Colombia, we have not experienced a military coup, even a soft one in over 60 years. I think for Argentina the figure is 45 years, and for Cuba it is 60+ too. There are no memories of how power is attained during a coup, only of some of their painful consequences, and some of them become more of a legend/oral tradition, of how bad things can get under dictators. In the US, that memory does not exist at all, only testimonies from immigrants escaping from sh!thole countries. 2. OTOH, Venezuela and Nicaragua do have recent memories of left wing dictators taking over, but that reinforces the view that only the left wing has dictators, even if we have the painful examples of Chile, Panama, Brasil, Paraguay, Salvador, Bolivia, Argentina, and probably a few more, but somehow those experiences are swept under the rug. In some of the Right Wing minds, all the dictators are Nazional Socialists... See? Nazis were Socialists! 3. Same as in the US, the information bubble for the right wing is ample and able to suck in any willing soul. Colombia has an inept puppet as president and all his moves have been very reminiscent of what Trump has done in the US; his pandemic response has been subpar and has used the emergency to enrich corporations and people with connections, while basically giving peanuts to most of the population, not to mention consolidate power under the executive. Just last week the police killed a guy in their custody and after denying it and covering it, they went out and killed 10 people and injured many more that were protesting the original murder, all that without mentioning the systematic killing of social leaders all over the country. My right wing acquaintances response: They probably deserved to be killed, and here is a page to support the police. So, do you really think that the American Wing Nuts are concerned about a Right Wing coup, or that they think that having a dictator from their side is a bad thing?
This is a great and thorough explanation, and I don't disagree with a word of it. I will also say, though, that an acceptable answer to the original Q, which (to refresh people's memory) was... ...is that their Spidey sense is going crazy, but that they absolutely love it. 30-40% of any populace has strong authoritarian leanings, and it's not shocking to see the US is at the high end of that range give our prosperity was built upon centuries of white supremacy. So when he says "white supremacy is good, law and order keep it that way!" they really ****ing like that.
You are absolutely right, but Deadtigers question was triggered by this: So my answer was limited to why latinos are vulnerable to such conspiracies and Trump;s misinformation, but off course much of it applies to a lot of the economic anxiety we see in the US...
For the first time in its 145 year history, Scientific American is making a presidential endorsement. The other way around. Calling it global warming allowed senators to go outside in January and make a snowball and say it's all fake.
A few good pools today for Joe. Wisconsin is getting out of reach. For those freaking out about Fl, good news as well. CNN polls of likely voters: North Carolina: Biden 49%, Trump 46% Wisconsin: Biden 52%, Trump 42% A new Monmouth poll in Florida finds Joe Biden leading Donald Trump in the presidential race, 50% to 45% among registered voters. Under a likely voter scenario with a somewhat higher level of turnout than in 2016, the race is unchanged at 50% for Biden and 45% for Trump. The margin narrows slightly to 49% Biden and 46% Trump when using a likely voter model with lower turnout.
While calling it Climate Change allows Senators to claim that the climate is always changing and point at things like the Ice Ages and the lack of massive glaciers now to claim that Climate Change is just a natural process.
Another article to ruin your day ... The Media Learned Nothing From 2016 https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/09/media-mistakes/616222/ Non-Paywall version: https://archive.is/tZOsT
It's the non-paywall link that makes it art. Without it, we could be like, "well, here's Knave trying to bum us out. Again. Luckily I burned my last Atlantic freebie yesterday with a review of that moronic In Defense of Looting book... " But noooooooooooo! he gives us the archive link as well. What an asshole!

Gotta stay in practice. -- edit -- I just read another ruin your day article: Nevada Built a Powerful Democratic Machine. Will It Work in a Pandemic? https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/15/us/politics/nevada-2020-biden-trump.html This is right in line with what I was reading from Jon Ralston's outfit a few days ago. My neighborhood's HOA has a closed facebook group. Moderators are board members who only allows people in with references and confirmation of addresses. It's not an official place for complaints, notices or billing or anything. I have never commented on the page. The group is pretty much the only reason I have a page still (that has only update to thefacebook in the past 17 years) since updates are there before the official channels if people use the official website/app. A commenter under a post about cleaning up after dogs was a troll that was attacking the usage of Karen and being very argumentative. Fortunately, it was caught and reported and people stopped responding when they saw how strange the postings were and that the user's page had nothing on it and then the name of the user even change from a female name to a male name. I wasn't part of the fun and only saw the aftermath. FFS. Facebook needs to get their shit together. I can only imagine what is happening in other closed groups if that is what happened on the page of a HOA that had no political discussion and people who were intelligent enough to see through it.
