I did not watch much of them. I flipped back and forth, knowing that Trump is the annoying aggressive old guy I dealt with in the VIP sections at my first job. After a few flips, I just played video games. See, I grew up near the border. I can't even tell he has an accent. The only Canadian I know of that had an accent was Mike Babcock, the Red Wings coach. Funny enough, I've been mistaken for a Canadian when I travel around the US.
I couldn't possibly agree more. Yes, Trump is a vile monster whose organs should be harvested and his corpse dumped somewhere over the North Atlantic Ocean. We can all agree on that. But I expect better from Democrats. Both debates left me feeling depressed by how lightweight, how inept, how inarticulate, and how, well...how dumb Joe Biden is.
The first debate, I thought Biden was pretty engaging, but last night, he sounded old and tired. I may have just been starved for something resembling competence while watching the first debate - after last night, I can see why you were so bummed.
Sure - he had this huge career because he is so dumb? College educated are already voting from him in huge numbers. You may have missed the past 4 years or so, but the rest of the US electorate hasn't exactly covered itself in analytical glory in recent times ... its 1-2% of those people he is still talking to
Eisenhower was a really good president, and he often appeared that way. We're not casting an MTV video here.
Except, as you pointed out, his measures did little to nothing to slow down the spread. That was all done by the states and individual Americans. If he had actually done something, then sure, go crazy and take credit, but he didn't do anything. In fact, the one measure that he likes to say Biden never would have done was likely a major spreader event. When Trump banned travel to China and Europe, tens of thousands of Americans flooded into the US and there was absolutely no controls implemented to make sure they weren't infected when they arrived. In all likelihood, a number of them were infected and ended up becoming Typhoid Mary's in their communities.
The quixotic crusade vs Biden continues. IIRC, you were making fun of his stutter a few weeks ago. You expect better from democrats, good for you. I don't expect better from you though. This condescending tone, mixed with the arrogance of stupidity is a staple. I guess you have the same views of people like me who voted for Biden in the primaries, but that reflects more on you than anything else.
Let me tell you why Biden is the Democrat's best choice. Because where he connects to his audience best isn't at a debate or a stump speech, or even a town hall. It's when he's talking to congresspeople. If we were electing a dictator I'd want someone else for sure. But we are electing someone to get good laws passed with a legislature that is going to be feeling their oats and will be testing the fences in a few months. There is no one better to guide the herd than Biden. An ideologue or a firebrand is exactly who you don't want at a time like this. Look at what Trump was able to do with a Republican congress for 2 years - absolutely nothing except a horrible tax bill which was nothing like what he ran on.
I apologize for the long post, everybody. Do you really think that Trump has any organs left worth harvesting? I would assume they are the same gooey, gelatinous pile of ick as his outsides. Except his liver. He claims to have never had a drop of alcohol (despite having a brand of vodka and owning a winery). As a result, I suspect his liver is probably in good shape. Okay, where I may not have explained myself very well (and where you may agree or disagree). I never called him a lightweight. He has serious policy chops, honed in his decades in the Senate and as Vice President. I am far from thinking he is inept. I also absolutely do not believe that Biden is "dumb." I do think he is a bit inarticulate and his malaprops drive me crazy. However, that is largely because I am certain he knows the "correct" response, but just cannot recall it in a debate setting. However, I am insinuating cognitive decline. He has always been that way. He was not my candidate, far from it. I was never a fan or admirer of Joe Biden. He is also on the cusp of becoming President of the United States and has a fantastic Vice President candidate in Kamala Harris. I am doing whatever I can to see that this happens. His relationship with Harris will be the inverse of his relationship with Obama. I was not in favor of his being named Vice President (I wanted someone much younger who could take the baton and run with it in 2016), but he was selected as he supplied what Obama lacked- political experience and, especially foreign policy experience. With Harris, we have that potential recipient of the "baton" (although I suspect she will become President by the end of 2023, due to an illness with Biden). Harris can do much of the heavy lifting for Biden, leaving Biden to do his job as President. I also suspect that Biden will have an absolutely amazing cabinet. I do not expect that much from Joe Biden as President, but I expect GREAT things out of a Biden presidency.
Oh, boy ... Nobody asked what I think (they never do ...), but I'm gonna tell you anyway: Stop it with the internecine lefty wars until after the election. You can fight it out all you want after that, provided Biden wins. But until then, fcuking focus on what's important right now.
I think that’s why Trump is running better than you’d expect with brown and black voters...their men.
Not ruling that out. I haven't seen any breakdowns by gender on those polls, but... I wouldn't be surprised.
That was my first reaction, too. You wouldn't want to use them for a transplant, but I could see putting them in a museum. This is the pancreas of Donald J. Trump. It is an amazing endocrinological specimen. Many people are amazed at how wonderful this pancreas is. Donald Trump had possible the finest pancreas of any president in history. Definitely better than Obama's. Or you could harvest his organs and make them into pet food. But PETA would probably say that was cruel to animals. And if PETA was upset, Donald would be happy, so scratch that idea.
Back to the debate, do you all think the concern about Biden's comments on big oil are all that damaging? Anyone who isn't concerned about climate change and thinks we should keep subsidizing fossil fuels was probably voting for Trump anyway, right?
That was the exact reaction of the Lincoln project folks last night on their roundtable. Whoever is a fossil fuels guy is unlikely to vote Biden. Let's face it, it is not like Big Oil has a lot of friends in the general population.
There are two things, intertwined here, which clearly helped Biden. The first is that he is a career politician and understands what a political debate means. That it is not about ideas, necessarily, but about soundbites and moments. The talking to the camera was great, but not a typical debate tactic. The second is listening to his team and working with them. There was no brilliance in his debating, but he listened to his team to not get too ruffled and to work on spouting specifics and facts with the occasional zinger. This second part is knowing who to pick for your campaign and trusting the team you pick, which ties back into being a career politician.
I agree. He seemed tired, less focused, less composed. But I also took this to mean he things he has the WH. And I also think that he knows he will be a 1 term President, and all this is to prep Harris.
I think it was good. He made the point that he is putting a stop to new permits on federal land, and that he is going to transition away from fossil fuels. Both are what need to happen.
So, Boca Juniors is 2 and 0 when playing Copa Libertadores on nights when Trump and Biden debate, with six goals scored and none allowed. It's a shame that the election season is almost over and there are no more debates.
Texas numbers are going through the roof. They are at 71% of the votes cast in 2016. Just under 9M voted in 16. Analysts are predicting north of 10 M this year, an over 10% increase. Will we see the Texas tectonic shift happen this year? Bodes well for Biden and the Dems though. 1319683169566756866 is not a valid tweet id Last week, the Carville/Hunt podcast had Dr Richard Murray, a top political sciences scholar in Texas as their main guest. He was pretty bullish about the Dems chance in the state. He mentioned two things for Biden to win: -High voters turnout. (so far it is off the charts). - Win in suburban counties and he specifically pointed to with the closest Colin county, the biggest one, North of Dallas (1.2 M residents). It was a very red county until recently. it went 55% for the GOP in 16 but Beto lost it 48/52 in 18. Murray said if Biden wins it with a bit over 50% of the votes in that county, he wins the state. Low and behold, saw that intriguing tweet today from a GOP consultant. I will definitely continue to dig more numbers on Colin county and Texas. Interesting dynamics there. 24.1% of Collin County voters have no voting history.... that is a scary scary number. #txlege— Luke Marchant (@_Luke) October 23, 2020 To add to the convo. Close to 50% of Colin county have already cast their votes. Look at the trends below. The largest suburbans counties are leading in % of votes cast. Beto won most of them, except in Denton County and there aforementioned Collin that is the fast growing one in Tx and changing rapidly. 1319699817296084992 is not a valid tweet id
Normally no matter what the accent I can understand fairly easily what is being said and this goes for some Scots I met while on a boat ride near Quebec City. While on the North Sydney - Port aux Basque ferry though I talked to this Newfoundlander who made me wish I had a translator. He must have been from some isolated fishing village because I met no one else who spoke like him.
