What would be the point crossing the border over the virus? I thought you guys had the best healthcare system in the world . Beside, an American would get a bill In all seriousness, they beefed up all points of entries.
Now USL BREAKING: #USL will suspend play indefinitely with immediate effect due to the continued spread of #CoronavirusPandemic and #COVID19, per multiple sources.More to come on @TheAthleticSCCR.— Jeff Rueter (@jeffrueter) March 12, 2020
Unless they close the border, that's not going to help much. Covid19 is infectious before any symptoms show. There are so many Americans and Canadians crossing the border every day, beefing up the points of entry isn't going to help simply because enough people with the virus, but not showing any symptoms, are going to get into Canada..
Best thing for the league to do is to order Atletico Ottawa (training in Spain now), other clubs (York9 i think) and players to come home Test them, Isolate them and if needed start the season behind closed doors
Having read the MLS press release, they are suspending the season for 30 days (for now). If things are good to reopen after that, it would be at the same time as the start of the CPL season. So I can see why the CPL wouldn't suspend things just yet.
The league just posted a statement saying that they're going to wait and see. But the way things are going right now, it doesn't look like the number of cases is going to plateau anytime soon.
Trudeau’s wife has it. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/covid19-premiers-coronavirus-1.5495001 even worse, NHL has suspended its season. https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/nhl-covid-19-suspended-season-1.5495002 CPL may need to update it’s message, tbh. While it is a month away, this isn’t going to go away in a month. It may be a good idea to say the start is suspended pending further direction from the government.
oh well, looks like it will either be behind doors or shutdown Alberta has just banned gatherings of more than 250 people.@FCEdmontonNow @CPLCavalryFC— Steven Sandor (@stevensandor) March 12, 2020
Effective immediately the Canadian Premier League has instituted a hold on all pre-season training for all of its Clubs beginning on Friday, March 13 for a period of 14 days. pic.twitter.com/JYKMna334h— Canadian Premier League (@CPLsoccer) March 13, 2020

The season is postponed The CPL has made the decision to postpone the start of the 2020 season#CanPL pic.twitter.com/7kFOWbJALH— Canadian Premier League (@CPLsoccer) March 20, 2020
This article suggests that CPL & CFL might be the only leagues operating in North America at some point as Canada will most likely control the pandemic faster than the US, especially since we closed the border. The main reason being that those 2 leagues are 100% independent from the US which could lead to those league restarting sooner. La @CPLsoccer et la @LCFca seront-elles les seules ligues à opérer cet été? ⚽️🏈Mon texte ici: https://t.co/fhuxXAe3jY pic.twitter.com/Pw92P5KMFt— Jeremy Filosa 🎙 (@JeremyFilosa) March 20, 2020
They might be able to flatten the curve faster but its still not gonna be soon enough to kick the season off.
Rumours are saying the league is targeting Canada day to start the season CPL exploring a tournament style restart to season in single location The league is looking at putting all 8 teams in one place, to mitigate travel cost and exposure to COVID19. Each club is making a strong pitch to host this event, with Winnipeg the logical front runner because of it’s geographic advantage, and only 33 active cases in the province. Vancouver Island is another strong candidate because of relatively small case numbers. This would be a closed door, made for TV event. Format and structure are being explored, with Canada Day the target for kick-off. Afterwards, the league hopes to play a compressed balanced schedule in empty stadiums with some concerns over our case numbers in Ontario.
For me biased towards the new team coming in, Atletico Ottawa because they have a Ghanaian on their squad, that of course being Bernardinho
Didnt see anything about the CFL risk mentioned. https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/cfl-federal-government-money-trudeau
Regarding a possible CPL Season I have spoken to a few people over the last week about where #CanPL stands in its re-start planning. Not much to report -- they are at the mercy of Public Health, like all of us. However, one thing was made clear: They are entirely focused on playing this year, not cancelling.— Duane Rollins (@24thminute) May 12, 2020 As for where they would play it was suggested that nothing is off the table, but the location would have to have enough accommodation to house all eight teams, along a stadium and ample training fields.— Duane Rollins (@24thminute) May 12, 2020 There were two areas of concern expressed to me -- 1) getting all the international players back. It is possible that some may not be able to enter the country for some time (some are also already here) and 2) insurance. Getting insurance to play the games could be challenging.— Duane Rollins (@24thminute) May 12, 2020
Good news about the league restarting Hearing that there was a meeting today to discuss #CanPL re-start. They are now looking at a neutral site to start. They are primarily looking at three possibilities: New Brunswick, Vancouver Island or Winnipeg. Timeline is dependent on Public Health officials.— Duane Rollins (@24thminute) May 14, 2020
“We can’t go dark.” An answer to me as to why #CanPL was moving ahead with plans to play closed door games this summer (July 1 is a long-shot goal, but more realistically they are aiming for Aug 1). Almost certainly will be the only professional sport played in 🇨🇦 this summer— Duane Rollins (@24thminute) May 25, 2020
Not necessarily because hearing the NBA might come back and if it does Canada at least has something to look forward to but even then other leagues too are coming back possibly like Premier League, MLS
Hearing that progress has been made in getting #CanPL clubs back into training. Possible that players could begin returning to team facilities for limited/individual workouts in the coming days. @onesoccer— Oliver Platt (@plattoli) May 26, 2020
