Due to a scheduling faux pas the match overlaps with the AFCON final, meaning Al Ahly is missing six key players who are with the Egyptian national team. Monterrey being absolutely torn apart in Mexico for failing to beat an Al Ahly side with as many as 13 players absent.
Monterrey somewhat redeemed themselves and finished in 5th place. Should Pulisic see the field in Saturday’s Chelsea-Palmeiras final he will be the first American to play in a club world final since Jovan Kirovski with Dortmund in 1997.
The Al Hilal faithful showed up well today to back their boys against a much superior Chelsea side. Once again, the sport displays why and how a much more modest team can still ask questions of a team that on paper should win with ease.
