I wish. He'll play his chances against Colley and Tonelli (Chabot is young and clearly needs to develop a little).

The 32-year-old – born in Nagasaki, Japan on 24 August 1988 – has penned a contract that runs until 30 June 2024.

lmao they're wrote wrongly on their own website. In the italian version it just says it lasts until june, however it's correct that there is an option to extend.
Just to clarify, this is not really "a loan" even though the called it like that: Yoshida's contract was expiring in june. Sampdoria paid 200k to basically compensate Southampton for these 6 months.

According to local newspapers, Yoshida could start tonight against Inter.

It's gonna be a tough game. Apparently Ranieri has switched to 3-5-2 and I hope it won't be like this, but I don't see Sampdoria that well.

The first half was a nightmare for him, so it was for his teammates. He was too passive and didn't mark properly Lukaku in all of the three occasions which led to Inter's goals (including the disallowed goal in the second minute).

However, in the second half he had a very solid and composed performance, shutting down
    Lukaku almost completely.

Sampdoria had a very decent second half too, they pulled a goal back and nearly equalised.

If he can build on his performance in the second half, he will be a real asset for Sampdoria in the coming matches of the season.

In the video he looked pretty good throughout the match to me. It's not shown what Yoshida did in the midfield before the first goal, having to run back like that. For the second goal it was a blackout of the whole defense, Yoshida sticking to Lukaku and being drawn to the wing by him.

Yoshida did quite good in an awful team vs a league contender against one of/the top form Serie A forward aka Lukaku.
Nor of the 2 goals was his fault but the whole (ugly) defence.
Being a japanese cb starting in the most defensive league of the world is just awesome.

Takes more to be a premier league defender though, which he has achieved also

Yoshida played a decent game last night against Roma.

They were narrowly defeated 2-1, just as the last match against Inter. If they continue to play like this they will be surely safe from relegation.

Next match will see Yoshida vs Tomiyasu.

It will be the first Japanese derby in Italy since 5 years and 7 months ago, when Honda and Nagatomo last played against each other in November 2014.

Tbh, I disagree. He was decent at the beginning but his mistakes costed Dzeko's goal.

Yeh, both Dzeko's goals were easy lobbed balls over Yoshida. Dzeko also left him in the dust earlier on but the keeper made a great save.

I saw it from a different perspective.

Sampdoria was applying an offside trap to contain Roma's attacking thrusts, and in both Roma's goals Dezeko managed to beat the offside trap and Yoshida was the first CB to react and chase him.

Thus, if you look into it from this perspective you would say that Yoshida was the best component of the defence as he was the first one to react and make up for the defence line mistake.
While if you just the saw moment that Dzeko got the ball and directed towards the goal with Yoshida chasing him, you might think that Yoshida was marking Dzeko and he was beaten by him.

Came in as a sub yesterday against Tomiyasu's Bologna, with Bologna leading 0-1, and Sampdoria conceded another one shortly, with Yoshida not the one to blame.

He then blocked two dangerous shots that might see Bologna leading by a bigger margin and seal the match, those two blocks gave Sampdoria the hope of a late comeback as they pulled one goal back and tried to equalise deep into the stoppage time, but they couldn't, as Sampdoria succumbed to their third straight defeat.

Sampdoria are in a deep hole right now. Next two against Lecce and SPAL, fundamental to avoid relegation.
