I'm just going to watch endless reruns of the second leg against RBNY in 2012 and pretend the last 8 years never happened........
Does anybody have a clip of Etchy giving a forearm shiv to a NY Metro Rat on the sideline during a playoff game?
I'll be watching primarily to get a better look at some of the more promising NT prospects. I'll probably adopt Philly despite the fact that, as I am given to understand by mlssoccer.com, they are our most hated rivals. Kiss of Death, Curtin!
Anyone have a copy of the '98 game v Toluca that got us to Vasco? The games in those years vs foreign competition is one of main reasons I keep hanging on to current DC, hoping with fading desperation that one day we will earn more of those opportunities. Was disappointed that despite our entreaties we didn't get to play RM in a since they won the euro tournament.
The one at RFK? I remember when Vasco scored, half of the stadium came down. But I never watched the return match in Florida.
I wouldn't mind Philly to finally win, although I wouldn't mind Orlando either or Montreal (won't happen). Basically no Seattle (especially), no LAFC, and in general teams that have already won in the past. Preferibly also no NY teams, although I could live with that if they play vs Seattle or LAFC. I just can't stand Seattle overall, and the couple Cheating Bob + Carlos Vela.
While going retro - MLS put up a nice retrospective on Jaime - https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...me-moreno-set-standard-forwards?autoplay=true the very last scene shows a 16yo rookie Ben Olsen....
Vela is probably the best player in the league. Bob is one of the best coaches. I actually enjoy watching good teams and players play good soccer. I need something to balance out DCU.
I understand but I can't stand either one. The same way I couldn't stand Lippi, even when he won the World Cup with Italy.
Straight no and not because MLS says I should hate them. I hate them for Bedoya and Gooch gooning up Lucho a few years ago in the preseason. I don't care what kind of job Curtain has done and what young players they have developed. I am generally a NO on any team from the east winning anything more than a meaningless Supporters Shield and of course an eastern conf championship, since someone has to. Unless someone is facing LAG ... like that will ever happen again. I'd rather see the big budget teams win if we're not going to. I'd like to see the tide lift us a little or perhaps convince our thrifty owners of what I've long known, which is that they're out of their depth. On this, I imagine we all agree.
1332358733574311936 is not a valid tweet id Sounds like Kevin Paredes was called up for the USMNT for the December friendly
Not surprised. I feel like people around here have definitely pointed out his contributions but have remained ghostly quiet on his scary potential. He could be a real star.
Getting word D.C. United did not exercise defender Oniel Fisher's option. Unclear yet whether DCU will offer a new deal or he must seek a new club via re-entry draft.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) November 30, 2020
He was badly hurt in that collision with Hamid; 1 year to heal up but never fully recovered. A shame, he was effective bringing the ball up the right side when he was on.
I think he was a good change of pace guy and thought he looked at a similar level of contribution to his form 2 years ago and his price tag was fairly reasonable. No idea what the option was but from <$80k, how much could it have been? While I realize they want whomever to have a clean slate coming in, Fisher is a serviceable squad player at a reasonable price.
I hope they can re-sign him. He definitely has quality, especially if he can get back to where he was pre-injury.
A bit disappointed in Rivas, he was the much better of the two "hold-up" forwards we had in the 2020 version of DCU. D.C. United have announced their year-end roster decisions ahead of the 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) season. A total of 15 players are under contract for 2021 and the club have exercised contract options on Joseph Mora, Júnior Moreno, Yordy Reyna, and Ulises Segura, as well as made a bonafide offer to Chris Odoi-Atsem. The club has declined 2021 contract options on Mohammed Abu, Earl Edwards, Jr., Oniel Fisher, Felipe Martins, Gelmin Rivas, and Axel Sjöberg. “As a club, we are looking forward to the 2021 season with a solid core of returning players to turn things around from a challenging year in 2020,” Dave Kasper, D.C. United General Manager and VP of Soccer Operations, said. “We have experienced, professional players combined with a terrific core of young Homegrown talent, and we expect to make some important additions to the roster this off-season. We want to thank the players who will no longer be with the club for their commitment and service to the Black-and-Red. We wish them the best of luck in the next chapter of their careers.” https://www.dcunited.com/post/2020/11/30/dc-united-announce-end-season-roster-decisions
Goff is reporting that United is negotiating a new deal with Rivas (along with Felipe and Edwards Jr) so he may not be going anywhere. Goff's report also states that Fisher, Abu (end of loan), and Sjoberg won't be coming back.
I think most of those moves make sense. Abu wasn't going to be ready in the spring and neither will Felipe. Right now, DCU has 3 healthy D-mids in Moreno, Canouse and Nyeman. That's a good rotation and a re-signed Felipe can shuttle in once he's cleared after the ACL injury. If they can't find Felipe, there are Abu like guys floating all over MLS and the rest of the world. As for Fisher and O-A, great if they can re-sign O-A, but really, RB was a dumpster fire last year. The one thing I don't get at all is exercising an option on Reyna -- they guy flamed out in Vancouver and his only accomplishment here was getting Covid.
Yeah, there's literally no reason to be paying a transfer fee for Abu. He showed some quality on the field when he got to play, but he wouldn't be a regular starter here (the team already has Moreno, Canouse, and Nyeman, and Felipe will almost certainly be re-signed), and who knows what formation a new coach will want to employ. Not picking up Felipe's option is shrewd, too, as he was on $500,000 in 2019. He'll certainly be making less than that in 2021. As for Reyna, apparently he and Flores are close and the team could be keeping him on to see what the two of them could do together on the field full time. Though if they're keeping Reyna, I would not get my hopes up for the team splashing money on a striker in the offseason right now, given his 2019 salary was $650,000, with guaranteed compensation of over $700k.
I actually thought Abu was the best of the lot after a game or two. Much more direct and kept the ball moving. Maybe the purchase price was too steep. Yeah, I didn't get Reyna from a soccer perspective. Good energy, good enough to be a part-time starter, but I'm still not sure what his best position is, and that's a lot of money to pay a guy who's going to be on the bench half the time - at least for DC. The Flores angle makes sense.
