Although Forge did reasonably well last year, Canada's slot is so new that we still have very few ranking points and are in the bottom pot for the preliminary round draw. In this covid-abbreviated format where the preliminary round is just one game, we therefore won't get a home game unless we make the round of 16. Here's hoping we draw an easier opponent for the preliminary round game.
Forge will play Municipal Limeño of El Salvador in the tournament’s a preliminary round on October 20. New at @CPLsoccer Forge FC to face Municipal Limeño in El Salvador in preliminary round of Concacaf League in October. If Forge wins, it plays Tauro FC of Panama in the round of 16 in November.https://t.co/KZF15De1La— John Molinaro (@JohnMolinaro) September 21, 2020
This article is from the Hamilton Spectator: https://www.thespec.com/sports/hami...ge-foursome-as-they-head-for-el-salvador.html It's mostly fluff but it does talk about how the Forge players are dealing with their time "off" and how excited they are about Thursday's game.
Forge has eliminated CM Municipal Limeno 2-1 while being down a man in El Salvador! David Choiniere and Anthony Novak scored Forge goals. The ref was classic CONCACAF, Forge were sloppy defensively at time but kept pressuring Limeno to get the result. Next game is November 3rd in Panama against Tauro FC. 📹 @ForgeFCHamilton advances to the Round of 16 of #SCL20 with a 2-1 dramatic win over @LimenoOficial today in San Salvador. A great result! And very good by Forge to overcome being a man down to still get the win. Babouli looked like he had his best match ever and that was a lovely shot by Novak for the winner. The team is apparently staying south to travel directly to Panama. This will be a stiffer test but I look forward to seeing how Forge can answer it.
Babouli scored for Forge in the 11th minute, Aguilar scored for Tauro in the 19th minute, and Krutzen scored in the 90+2nd minute for a 2-1 win at Tauro.
The highlights from last night's game! Truly historic win for Forge who beat Tauro FC in Panama - the same club who eliminated FC Dallas in 2018! Well done by Forge! Now they can make the CCL if they win either of their next two games. The first is the quarter final, which would put them into the semis. If they lose the quarter final, they'll get matched against another quarter final loser in a single match for entry into the CCL. For the quarter final, they will play either Waterhouse (Jamaica) or Arcahaie (Haiti). On paper, at least, that should be an easier game than Tauro. Forge are also doing a great job of moving the CAN2 slot up in the rankings.
Robert Borden posted highlights that last 2:13. Concacaf posted highlights that last 3:07 and extended highlights (which I don't remember them doing before) that last 8:35 Flash Score was wrong about the time of the last goal. It was a penalty in the 90+1st, not the 90+2nd.
This page from Wiki shows the slot rankings for next year updated for the performance so far this year. The slot we are chasing is the CCC3 slot because that would put us in the top half of the preliminary pool. CCC3 is also still alive for this year. Technically, if they go out in the next round and Forge wins the CL, CAN2 could make the top half this year. More likely it will have to wait at least one more year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_CONCACAF_League

Forge is defeated - Arcahaie FC won on penalties. Forge will face the loser between Marathon and Saprissa for a CCL spot later this month
Very disappointing to lose like that - both the goalie error and the shootout. Hopefully Forge can pull off an upset against Marathon and still qualify for the CCL.

Unfortunately, Forge were not able to pull out an upset victory against Marathon: https://canpl.ca/article/forge-fc-falls-short-vs-cd-marathon-in-champions-league-play-in-in-honduras Still, a good campaign in the CL. I'm already looking forward to what they can do next year.
