Those are both players I have heard of, both of whom played for the us u20s. Dorsey was..... bad. Amaya was not bad! He wasnt pick your jaw back up with your hands good either, but he looked like a player who can play.

Instead of Dorsey, how about we sign that other Indiana forward who played for the U20s (and who happens to be versatile enough to play effectively of the wings as well). He wont even cost us a draf pick!

The draft mockers always seem to get locked into the team x needs a y thinking, even if the team may have addressed that need or plans to address it another way.

We have young forwards who can't get playing time now, why draft another one to add to the list (unless he was really something special - not something you'd find in the middle of the 1st round). We have Angking as our young, developmental attacker, so I don't see that as a first-round priority.

I could see us drafting a center back early, because in a year or two he could provide a much more cap-friendly solution that higher-priced foreigners. And, WINGS.

We need a really good AM, but, like forward, I don't think we'd find a high-quality option in the mid-first round. OTOH, looking for diamonds in the rough in later rounds makes some sense.

We could also package multiple picks to move up, if Friedel sees a particular player he likes.

In this era of MLS I don't think anyone is drafting based off of need. It's about getting the best talent available at the right price (cap hit, international status, etc.)

I don't think this is a new thing. I've been saying this for almost a decade. Use the window to bring in the players you really need, and use the draft for the depth spots. The Revs, of course, do things differently generally. Which might explain one playoff game the last 4 years.

I think Doyle sums it up quite nicely:

But that's also why a team with a... uhh... let's say questionable academy needs to knock it out of the park in the draft.

Based on that logic (which I don't really disagree with), Revs should be drafting an international like Wouter Verstraaten.

they should draft the best possible player regardless of international status and let them compete for a job. They have money to sign whomever they want. They just seem to take the safe route
