Giovinco reportedly on the move.....to Saudi Arabia. Couple that with Vazquez's departure and Van der Weil getting in a bust up with Vanney. Stellar off-season so far in Toronto. No excuses not to finish ahead of those clowns next year.
Yep, I like the offseason I'm seeing from Toronto and NYRB. Atlanta's offseason is another one I'm looking at with curious eyes. Can't wait to see what kind of rule change MLS has for their roster situation as it currently sits. Plus Atlanta, NYRB and TFC (lol) all have to deal with the congested Champions League and compressed MLS schedules.
He's clarified those remarks. Basically he's not sure if they'll resign him so he said he's good either way. This got taken to mean he wants out, but I don't think that was truly his intent.
Doesn’t fire sale normally imply cheap prices? So far these deals have all been good business. The issue is now how to replicate it again.
You are right. I meant more the rate they are coming in at and late in the window. There is not much time to replace these DP level outbounds.
The REVS have signed an "in his prime" Spanish #10/winger. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/01/30/new-england-revolution-sign-spanish-attacker-carles-gil
hahaha he seems to have a thing for playing for relegate teams. That will be valuable experience playing for the Revs.
Here's his farewell to TFC fans: https://www.instagram.com/p/BtSUW-UgLT7/?utm_source=ig_embed Doesn't exactly sound like the decision to leave Toronto was mutual.
Pitty replacing Almiron looks fine on paper, but Almiron/Tata leaving does leave some questions for ATL. As does Adams in NY. And now Gio gone from TFC, and Villa from Citeh as well. I think it presents us with a potential opening.
Fagundez has made a lot of noise about wanting to leave, wants to go to Nacional in Uruguay. I’d imagine Gil is his replacement.
Quite the deadline day for MLS. Miguel Almiron to Newcastle is official. Fee of $27 million, biggest outgoing transfer in league history, and biggest signing in Newcatle's history. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/01/31/miguel-almiron-completes-record-transfer-atlanta-newcastle Sebastian Giovinco to Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia. Fee of around $2-3 million. Made sure to talk a bunch of shit about TFC on the way out: "As I have always maintained, I was hoping to renew my contract and finish my playing career in a city that feels like home. ... A place my family loves to live and wanted to call home for good," he wrote. "Unfortunately, this desire of ours has clashed with a change in direction with current TFC management. For the 2 years I have been seeking to extend my contract however management was reluctant. Recently, after refusing to exercise the club option for 2020, I was offered terms that I deemed unacceptable. They may say I left for a more lucrative deal, but this is not the case. Their offer and lack of transparency is a clear message. It seems management prefers to focus on things other than the pure desire to win. "After having grown the brand and elevating the overall reputation of TFC both at home and abroad, it seems I no longer serve a purpose. I would have accepted less to stay in Toronto." https://www.instagram.com/p/BtSUW-UgLT7/?utm_source=ig_embed Luciano Acosta to PSG is in the works, but might not get done in time. Talk of a $10 million transfer fee. https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...niteds-luciano-acosta/?utm_term=.0cf865a7d2f8 And Bayern Muich signed Taylor Booth from RSL's academy. http://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-t...an-taylor-booth17from-real-salt-lakes-academy Seriously, how in the fvck is it that teams like Bayern, Dortmund, Schalke, Leipzig, Freiburg, and more can find all this young talent in the US, and give them playing time, when MLS teams can't? We need such an overhaul of the thinking in the US it's not even funny.
Money--and kids want to go to those teams rather than MLS. Interestingly, it seems to be the German teams that are willing to give these kids a shot and not the English teams, where there would be less in the way of a language barrier. That's a switch from not that long ago--there was a time when it was tough for a US player to get a real, long term shot in Germany. Having a guy like Cherundolo, who is the second longest serving "legionnaire" with one team in the Bundesliga (and third overall (multiple teams)) all time hasn't hurt.... Plus a lot of these teams have solid youth programs and U-23 reserve teams that play in the 3rd or 4th divisions. And let's be fair--a lot of that talent *was* found by MLS teams and their academies. The players just didn't want to stay.
Well... he said he didnt leave for a more lucrative deal, thats obviously bullshit. Why would you take less money than what TFC was offering to go live in Saudi Arabia? Doesn’t make sense. I’m sure TFC didnt want to re-sign him at his present number, and i cant blame them, his production has slowed down, he’s in his 30s now. I dont blame TFC for letting him go, and i dont blame Giovinco for leaving, dont give me some bullshit about going to Saudi Arabia for a deal that isnt “lucrative” though.
