37' 0-0 Boquete(?) passes up wide left to Weber at box top wide left. Quick ground cross to 9m 6-left, Press splits Barnes and Quinn and flicks right outstep, Murphy sprawls and blocks ball out to 5m 5-left. Press shoots one-touch left instep half-volley past Murphy still down, off left post 1/4 high and over endline left.

40' 1-0 Reign clear ball from circle back to 33m arc right. Yanez jumps 1-v-1 over Boquete and back-heads gently to 27m arc right, J.Taylor promptly lifts waist-high right roundhouse and dumps ball past Sauerbrunn caught flat-footed. Balcer has 1 step lead over Weber at 22m mid-right, times her sprint-start perfectly past Sauerbrunn, maintains lead to 11m mid-right. One perfect touch keeps ball in her stride to 5m 6-right, Balcer shoots 2nd touch right instep near post past Barnhart's left hand, across goal into 1/4 left back low.

    HT 1-0.

51' 1-0 Brief stoppage, Balcer stays down on back with -- a leg twinge? She walks off unassisted, but a bit slowly.
52' 1-0 Reign FC subs in (1 of 3) #25 Ifeoma Onumonu for #24 Bethany Balcer.

67' 1-1 Utah right throw-in at 32m, back to Scott at circle top right. Scott drives a serve to 6m 7-left, Sauerbrunn heads down to 5m 1/4 left. Ball deflects off legs to 6-top 1/4 left, Boquete turns back to ball and swings right spinning roundhouse but gets undercut by Barnes(?), no call. Ball sits at 6m 1/6 left, Stengel steps forth and lifts right foot shot across mouth into back left edge 1/2 high.

73' 1-1 J.Taylor plays Jenkins to 15m box left. One-touch dink cross to 7m left post, Onumonu lunge-heads across mouth, Barnhart flies left and slaps with right glove overhead, wide right.

    77' 1-1 Yellow card on McNabb, for a 50-50 head-on shin-strike on Boquete.

81' 1-1 Reign FC subs in (2 of 3) #20 Rumi Utsugi for #6 Allie Long. 5,015 on a school night :coffee:

84' 1-1 Utah subs in (1 of 3) #6 Katie Bowen for #24 Katie Stengel.

86' 2-1 Jiménez Delgado longball from circle top right touch to arc tangent right, Utsugi sets up to head but Sauerbrunn shoulder-charges her off ball. Ball bounces untouched behind them, drops at 17m left post. Jenkins twist-heads a mini-lob over Corsie to 11m right post, J.Taylor shoots right foottop grasstop volley across mouth, past Barnhart's late dive, just inside left post low.

89' 2-1 Bowen crosses from 15m wide right to 8m 1/3 left, Corsie jumps amidst 3 and heads a bloop to 2/5 left face-high, Murphy catches and goes to ground.

    90' 2-1 Reign FC subs in (3 of 3) #33 Stephanie Cox for #9 Jodie Taylor. +5'.

90+5' (of +5') 2-1 Utah fk at circle back, flicked through box top center. Boquete lays out onto back, just misses a toe-poke, Murphy collects.

FT 2-1! Reign move into 4th on 34 pts with 2 matches remaining, and now hold the H2H tiebreaker over Utah for 2-1 wins. Reign and Washington are tied H2H for 3 draws (yes, really), so if it comes down to those two, it goes to GD.

34-2 #4.Reign FC: (2) vs. Portland, at Orlando
    31=0 #5.Utah: (2) at Chicago, vs. Houston
27+1 #6.Washington: (3) vs. North Carolina, at Orlando, at Portland

The Reign might have the last playoff spot wrapped up before they even take the field again. Both Washington and Utah play the day before, and are in matchups that are very unfavorable.

I have the feeling that Nicole Barnhart let quite down Utah in these last games: yes, she had some good saves for sure, but she also made an incredible number of blunders, including two wrong passes in the first half vs Seattle that just for a miracle weren't converted in goals by opponent FWs.

Almost doing something lets nobody down. Actually making errors that are converted let’s your team down.

Both goals were a direct result of defenders who actually did let the team down by not marking the right player.

32' 0-0 O'Reilly serves to 15m 1/3 right, Dougherty Howard back-heads to 4m 4-left. Bledsoe sprawls out and blocks ball away from Dunn but doesn't squeeze, Dunn rounds her going away through 6-top left, taps back to 10m mid-left. Debinha chips one-touch left foot mini-lob across empty mouth past Bledsoe stranded, to goalline 1/4 right 1/3 high. P.Nielsen chases back to own goalline, slide-volleys away through box right, Bailey collects.

38' 0-0 McDonald dribbles to arc top mid-right, bends a cross to Ln.Williams unmarked at 10m left post. Ball bounces off a stone foot to 8m 2/5 left, Ln.Williams slide-volleys, Bledsoe dives out and stuff-blocks ball away to spot. Dunn lifts knee-high left roundhouse, shoots over bar.

45+2' (of +2') 0-1 Dunn passes to McDonald at 5m right touch. McDonald touches to 3m wide right, scoops a cross to 6-top 1/4 right. Ln.Williams front-cuts Huster and P.Nielsen from 6-left, right instep grasstop volley nutmegs(?) hapless Bledsoe point-blank, into 2/5 right back low. On the restart --

    HT 0-1. Relentless. Washington 2(0)-(6)13 shots(sog), 0-7 corners, 3-29 crosses , 21-4 clearances, 3-2 offsides, 39% possession, 5-0 saves.

74' 0-1 North Carolina subs in (1 of 3) #4 McKenzie Meehan for #14 Jessica McDonald.

75' 1-1 Feist dinks past Zerboni to Logarzo amidst 5 at arc top 6-right, continues her own run to 22m center. Logarzo shields off O'Sullivan, taps left into Feist's stride. Feist darts to arc center amidst 4, taps inside-out past O'Reilly pinched way inside, through 14m 6-left. Pugh turns cw alongside ball, beats Debinha to 7m mid-left, shoots one-touch left instep off Debinha's extended right shoe. Ball deflects down, bounces past Labbé across mouth, into right side netting 1/3 high just behind right post. Too many little touches in North Carolina's arc, and Washington are rewarded for daring to be the aggressor.

79' 1-1 Lavelle passes to Pugh facing away at 25m center, Pugh taps square left to Lavelle at 25m arc left. Lavelle shoots one-touch left instep to 1m center, Labbé blocks with body but doesn't catch, ball bounces out to 6-top left post and Labbé outraces Hatch to pick it up.

82' 1-1 Washington subs in (3 of 3) #2 Arielle Ship for #33 Ashley Hatch.

84' 2-1 Ship collects at 24m 6-right, one-touch square pass left to Lavelle standing at 21m 1/4 left, with Dahlkemper and O'Reilly ceding a soft 5m. Lavelle turns left, fakes a pass to box left, drives left past Dahlkemper stepping up too close, to 15m left post. O'Reilly never quite gets weight off her feet to step into Lavelle's lane, Lavelle shoots left instep past Erceg's foot, across mouth under Labbé's dive, into right bottom pipe 1/2 back. Lavelle's 1st NWSL goal  Seize the day!!

86' 2-1 Yellow card on Erceg, for a foul on Ship.
88' 2-1 North Carolina subs in (2 of 3) #16 Julia Spetsmark for #7 McCall Zerboni.

FT 2-1. Gutsy performance when it mattered, and Washington are still alive :notworthy: Washington 6(3)-(9)27 shots(sog) vs. 7-1 saves, 1-10 corners, 8-40 crosses vs. 34-11 clearances, 4-2 offsides, 8-10 fouls, 43% possession.

40' 1-0 Colaprico fk at 35m box left, sailed a bit high to 8m 4-right, Weber drops back alone and heads ball out to 22m right post. Gorden darts in and challenges at Press's feet, scuffs ball loose to 23m center. DiBernardo steps forth amidst 3, shoots one-touch right foot golaaaaaaaazo past Barnhart's dive, into back left edge 1/3 high. U20 DiBernardo scored one like that vs. DPRK, and a decade later she still knows this shot :p

42' 1-1 Sauerbrunn longball to Weber(?) at circle top left touch, she drives to 25m left touch and taps square right to Press facing away. Press backpass to Scott, tap right to LaBonta at 40m center. LaBonta passes to Jónsdóttir unmarked at 22m wide right, Press lurks through arc left behind Gorden watching ball. Jónsdóttir crosses outswinging to 7m 1/4 right, Press front-cuts Gorden and stoop-heads a mini-lob across mouth over Naeher's dive, drops into back right edge 1/2 high.

    HT 1-1.

65' 1-1 Chicago subs in (1 of 3) #33 Katlyn Johnson for #9 Savannah McCaskill.
67' 1-1 Yellow card on Short, for a foul on LaBonta.

68' 1-1 Press fk at 24m wide right, chipped to 4m 2-right. Trick play: Corsie(?) pulls out of the flat line across 11m, front-cuts Kerr at right post and goes down to 3m 3-right. Boquete pulls away from Ertz on a direct path, Naeher comes out but doesn't get close, Boquete back-heads across goalline to 2m left post as Ertz veers to goalline center. Stengel reflex-swings and mostly whiffs, ball trickles to goalline 1/4 right, Ertz reverses direction and slide-clears to 17m right post, Kerr heads away.

77' 1-1 Chicago subs in (2 of 3) #2 Nikki Stanton for #10 Vanessa DiBernardo.

85' 2-1 Kerr sits in a perfect seam at 25m center, with 3m lateral separation from Sauerbrunn and Jónsdóttir, and 2m ahead of Corsie chasing back. K.Johnson fires a ground pass from 38m arc right to arc top center, Sauerbrunn turns poorly cw behind Kerr's run as Kerr turns alongside ball and lets it roll behind Sauerbrunn's line. Corsie overtakes as Kerr follows to 16m arc right, Kerr shoots right low roundhouse past Corsie's extended foot to 6-top 1/6 right. Barnhart dives right and blocks with right glove, ball trickles along 6-top to 1/6 left. Nagasato overtakes Jónsdóttir through 11m left post, slide-pokes into center back low. Utah rode the same 11 starters from Wednesday and have made no subs, and they've shown a bit of mental fatigue.

87' 2-1 Chicago subs in (3 of 3) #5 Kathleen Naughton for #13 Morgan Brian.

FT 2-1. Chicago end their regular season in 2nd on 44 pts from 24 matches. Portland are now locked into a semifinal vs. Chicago, and trail them by 5 pts with 2 to play for homefield. Utah valiantly bows out of the 2019 playoff race, down 3 with 1 to play and losing the tiebreaker to Reign FC. Ironically, Washington are still alive, down 4 with 2 to play and holding GD over Reign, with their season series all tied.

An impressive performance by Washington. They took it to NC for the last 20 minutes of the match. I wasn't impressed by either Pugh or Lavelle up until then -- but they came through brilliantly when the chips were down.

It was Washington's subs that made the difference between a miserable performance for 70 minutes and winning in the last 20 minutes. Ship, Logarzo, and Feist. Was NC tired out?

Turning to Chi/Utah, I've said it before. Kerr is the MVP, but Nagasato is second. Utah didn't use a single sub in the match. That is questionable as fresh legs might have helped them.

18' 0-1 Emslie fk at arc top wide right, everybody lined up along box top. Krieger times her curl through box top right post and goes to 7m right post, Kennedy makes her run up centerline, Zadorsky makes a run to left post. Emslie drives a ground cross to 6m right post, juuust past (or partially under) Krieger's outstretched foot. Zadorsky has five defenders between ball and her, but Monaghan nearest her inexplicably pulls up to a stop at 9m and raises arm for offside, Zadorsky outruns the other 4 -- alone to 4m 3-left, one-touch right instep into 1/3 left back low. Zadorsky's 1st NWSL goal!

42' 0-1 Yellow card on Edmonds, for a foul on Monaghan.
45+2' (of +3') 0-1 Yellow card on Hoy, for a foul on Emslie.

45+3' (of +3') 0-1 Marta fk at 17m mid-right, left instep helix-dives to right 90, off crossbar and over.

HT 0-1. Muted partial crowd at Red Bull Arena today.
