83' 0-0 Ohai receives on the run through box top left to 12m just inside box left. Edmonds chases her down and stretches a foot out, maybe gets a micro-touch on ball, trips Ohai down sprawling. Foul, penalty, Edmonds protests vociferously, R1 waves her off. R1 takes several Orlando players toward right corner flag to discuss with AR.

85' 0-0 Suddenly, with ball still dead and R1 not watching, Daly gets dumped down onto her seat at Orlando's spot -- and shoving ensues  Replay shows Marta two-handed shoving Daly leftward off-balance until Daly falls over. K.Mewis comes into the scrum, Marta shoves her, Ubogagu horse-collars Marta and pulls her away. R1 stalks back into the fray ... 2nd yellow = red card on Marta :speechless: She strides off to a raucous cheer. 1st ever NWSL match with two red cards, Orlando resume with 9 :barefoot:

87' 0-1 Daly pk, right instep pull into back left edge 1/4 high, as Harris dove wrong.

87' 0-1 Yellow card on Ohai -- for delay while being subbed off?
87' 0-1 Houston subs in ( of 3) #25 Ariana Catrina Calderón Valdez for #7 Kealia Ohai.

    88' 0-1 Orlando subs in (1 of 3) #9 Camila for #6 Chioma Ubogagu. +5'.

90+2' (of +5') 0-1 Emslie fouls Kizer, yellow card on Emslie. Orlando's crowd now boo every Houston touch and every call against Orlando, no matter how justified :D

FT 0-1. Orlando blew a few mental gaskets at the end, as a tough season gets tougher. Two red card suspensions will make it even worse.

Houston quietly sneak up into 5th on 22 pts from 17 matches, passing Washington and Utah both on 21 pts from 15. Washington and Utah have woes of their own, and 2 matches in hand might not even suffice :coffee:

Very quick report from WAS game. It has been over a year since I’ve see NWSL live and it was great. Beautiful weather. At half I told my son that Casey Short was going to be the difference maker in the game. The game announcer did not announce the CHI goal and the serve came from the far side, so I did not see it clearly. I got to do my gloating in the car on the way out after seeing the replay on my phone. Also saw license plates from Texas and Massachusetts on the way out. They announced a Sellout during the game, but did not give a number. The crowd was a fully mixed demographic of soccer families, young adults and old adults. The Spirit Squadron was on the far side of the field. In spite if their efforts there was very little organized cheering or even singular voiciferous exhortations from the fans on our side. Back in Rochester for the men’s team, a common cheer was one side of the stadium yelling Rah-Ches-Ter, answered by the other side yelling Rhi-Nos. Someone needs to get Washington Spirit started at the Plex. I loved that Little Rose Lavelle was the mascot for Big Rose, and Little Rose did the coin flip. I do so miss my Flash games....

04' 0-1 Ball ricochets to Ln.Williams at midfield mid-left, she kicks a longball through box right and continues her own trailing run. Hamilton chases it down at 1m wide right, hooks a cross to 6m 1/4 right. Ln.Williams hops but misses, ball hits Sonnett untouched and bounces down to 5m 2-right. Dunn sits unmarked at 12m right post, Ln.Williams stabs right outstep back to 8m 2-right. Dunn steps forward, shoots right instep slice rising over Franch's left shoulder, into 1/3 right back 2/3 high.

19' 0-1 Yellow card on Foord, for fouling S.Mewis.

20' 0-1 Foord grabs Dahlkemper's right shoulder from behind, tugs her back and levers self ahead of her, both sprawl down upon ball. Foul, no card.

    26' 0-1 Portland short-pass in their own 1/3 vs.NC's high press.

30' 0-1 Ball crosses from 15m wide right to 5m 1/3 left, it drops just over Charley jumping with Labbé up centerline. Horan hops and tucks, twist-heads just wide left.

34' 0-1 Horan passes to 3m mid-left, Heath shoots one-touch left instep to 1m left post, Labbé kick-saves.

41' 0-1 Dunn shoots from ~arc top right to crossbar 1/5 left, Franch jumps and tips it over.

    HT 0-1.

03' 0-1 Corsie fk(?) from circle back right, down box right for Rodriguez chasing past Barnes, both behind Catley caught high up. Rodriguez dances at 6m box right, splits Catley and Barnes and gets to 6-top 7-right -- Oyster leaves Stengel unmarked at 6m 1/4 left, comes across to stop ball. Rodriguez shoots left instep rising to 2m right post, Murphy reflex-blocks ball off right post 3/4 high, it reflects across mouth and hits Stengel's thighs at 4m 1/4 left, reflects softly into center back low. She couldn't even get out of the way :p

55' 0-1 Purce to Heath at 6-left, she shoots across mouth, Mathias blocks it wide right and over.

56' 1-1 Sonnett races Debinha back to 30m mid-right, slide-hooks a pass to 18m wide right for Ball coming up unmarked. Ball floats a high cross toward 6-top 1/3 left, Raso and Purce challenge Mathias and S.Mewis. Labbé comes out into that scrum and jumps, Mathias backs up and undercuts her, snaps head back and jostles Labbé's elbows. Ball bounces off Labbé's hands over her shoulder, S.Mewis chases it back to own goalline but can't keep it out, falls sideways into own back bottom pipe. Ball's cross was headed toward box left foot, so the goalward vector was all Labbé -- hence an own goal.

70' 1-1 North Carolina subs in:
    - (1 of 3) #14 Jessica McDonald for #9 Lynn Williams
    - (2 of 3) #7 McCall Zerboni for #5 Samantha Mewis.

29' 0-1 Balcer dribbles up centerline, passes to Groom at box top mid-right, continues her own run into box. Groom holds up (and Utah swarm defenders back), gets closed down 1-v-2, dinks a pass to Balcer flashing open at 11m mid-right. Balcer turns to 8m mid-right, shoots wide right into endboards.

32' 0-1 Oyster passes to J.Taylor at circle top right, one-touch square pass right to Quinn -- and J.Taylor starts her own run up circle right lane. Quinn passes up right touch to Groom, one-touch square pass into J.Taylor's stride through box top mid-right. J.Taylor goes to 10m mid-right, shoots wide right into side netting.

41' 1-1 Simultaneous goals! Oyster(?) long serve from ~midfield box right to box top right post, Groom jumps for a back-header -- off Stengel's head, it bloops over everybody and bounces at 7m 1/3 right. Long settles momemtarily, Sauerbrunn digs ball away to 11m 2/5 right. Groom runs on and blasts right foot half-volley into back left edge 1/2 high.

    HT 1-1.

82' 2-1 Sinclair pokes ball past Dahlkemper down box left to 7m, cross to 6-top left post. Raso cuts center-to-left with inside position on Hinkle, hop-volleys left instep off Hinkle's left leg. Ball deflects leftward, bounces up and hits Erceg's thighs, reflects goalward, juuuuust misses Hinkle's back as she goes to left post -- and takes a gigantic topspin bounce past Labbé diving backward, trickles into back left low. Own goal on Erceg  not really her fault, credit Portland's relentless attack.

85' 2-1 Portland subs in (3 of 3) #15 Ellie Carpenter for #27 Elizabeth Ball.

87' 2-1 Dunn crosses from 23m mid-right to 8m center, McDonald leans past Sonnett(?) and heads down to 1/8 right low, Franch dives and blocks over endline right.

89' 2-1 McDonald passes to Hamilton not marked at 12m mid-right. Hamilton touches to 7m mid-right, shoots right instep across mouth, Franch slaps it over bar.

    89' 2-1 North Carolina subs in (3 of 3) #17 Heather O'Reilly for #8 Denise O'Sullivan.

FT 2-1. Portland vaults Chicago into #1.

52' 1-1 Reign ck, cleared. Oyster passes to White at 8m wide left, she crosses to 4m 1-left. Long slide-volleys wide left for the 2nd week in a row

53' 1-1 Weber chases down box left to 5m, crosses to Press at 8m 6-left. Press stabs one-touch right outstep, misconnects and sends it to 6-left foot.

55' 1-1 LaBonta steps forward to arc right, shoots right foot wide right as Murphy dove to post.

59' 1-2 LaBonta dribbles through 27m arc right, Balcer overtakes her on the right and momentarily pulls ahead. LaBonta stays on feet as Balcer slides down and pokes a perfect through-ball up centerline in LaBonta's stride. Meanwhile, Oyster steps self away from centerline to cover Rodriguez at 6-right, can't recover to ball. Murphy comes out to 6m and goes down early, LaBonta fakes a shot at spot, takes one more step to 9m center, mini-chips over Murphy's legs into center back low.

60' 1-2 Reign FC subs in (2 of 3) #17 Beverly Yanez for #5 Rebecca Quinn.
66' 1-2 Reign FC subs in (3 of 3) #11 Darian Jenkins for #9 Jodie Taylor.

67' 1-3 Stengel pulls up at 22m arc left, shoots right instep bend to 6-top center. Murphy kneels at 3m, ball takes a high bounce into her throat area, she blocks but doesn't catch, ball bounces out to 5m 1/5 right. Rodriguez runs on and half-volleys over Murphy, into 1/5 right back high.

74' 1-3 Utah subs in (1 of 3) #66 Gunnhildur Yrsa Jónsdóttir for #25 Katie Stengel.

88' 1-3 Weber passes down box left to Press at 8m wide left. Press crosses to 6m 1/4 right, Rodriguez lunge-heads down to goalline 1/3 left, Murphy dives right and blocks along endline.

A semi-facetious remark (but only semi): Hailey Raso for player of the week because she caused two own goals by NC?

Wow, the difference between Portland and Courage apparently was Franch doing her job superbly vs Labbé & her defense making a mess of almost every ball reaching the box!

Washington... top of the table just over a month ago. Now sitting in 7th looking like a long shot to make the playoffs.

Everyone seemed to surge at the wrong time for them to take a break. SMH.

Even though Sky Blue didn't play this weekend, they are now dangerously close to being mathematically eliminated from Shield contention... Their max possible is 33pts and there are three teams within 5pts of that number. SportClubStats already says they're out, but that's after performing a very-large-but-still-finite number of simulations; IDK off the top of my head if those top three play each other enough to have actually eliminated Sky Blue already.
