    That's a shame.

So no full season until 2021/22?

Oh, the Members Cup will be back!

It's a shame, because it's the only league Detroit seems to be able to win.

FWIW, I never did see crowd figures for 1904's last game and the two coastal "championships." But the 22 games I have data for averaged 1,598.

Can clubs that average below the given 1,000-minimum stadium requirement in D3 PLS last long?

They have not, historically, though this is, admittedly a small sample and a kind of thrown-together "concept" season. It is not the fairest of tests. (That said, I would not expect Stumptown Stupidname FC Athletic Town United to suddenly figure it out and pack them in once it's "for real.")

I don't see how this sort of semi-launch is going to help.

This is my thinking as well.

Some clubs and the league itself really need to step up their exposure game, unless they would like another round of low attendances and broadcasting from mycujoo with 100 people watching.

What would make next season where it actually counts different than this past dry run of a "tournament"?

It may or may not help.

I think the NISA - as MLS did, years ago - suffers from not being taken seriously. To demonstrate that they could actually kick a ball, and maybe in an attempt to at least generate some revenue and use players they wanted to sign rather than have to have them sit around or go somewhere else and get hurt, or maybe just as a proof of concept bit, they decided to play this...whatever it was.

It works both ways, though. Since it was (largely) a dud, all that may have been negated. But at least very few people were aware of it happening, so the actual damage may have been minimized.

If nothing else, they appear to have discovered that Oakland can draw, Matt Driver couldn't organize a trip to the men's room and that there's work to do in their other markets. (Two of those three were fairly obvious to most observers, to be fair.)

Now they have demonstrated that there's a team, they have at least enlisted a few hardcores who may be able to help visually in marketing for the spring (or whenever the hell they're going to play next, I can't keep track), they have small footholds in some places and if they had rose-colored glasses about this, maybe that has been knocked down a bit.

They get Detroit and Chattanooga full time soon, and they know what they're doing, so that's helpful. But they're going to have to deal with the issues that all startup leagues do, and it's made worse by I don't see anyone in their braintrust who inspires confidence that they can administer a league.

So maybe it's a neutral thing on balance, this showcase.

I don't think they play until next Fall by which time SD Loyal will a 6 month head start on 1904.

Oh I thought they were playing in the spring for some reason and the Cosmos were not joining until the fall.

In which case, yeah, this made even less sense. In 10 months, there will be no momentum to speak of.

I think NISA is planning to have another short season in the Spring of 2020.
The Cosmos missed the deadline to join for that competition.

It is hard to find any recent statement from NISA about the Spring but here is one from San Diego 1904 in November.

    Spring season
Details for the 2020 Spring season have not been released, but it is expected that an additional 5 or more teams will join the existing 8 teams, and the schedule will be expanded. The format of the competition and the playoff qualification methods have not been revealed yet.

Oakland Roots haven’t completely sold out yet but are around the 4500k range at the moment. Got to imagine they’ll pick up some people day of.

    Absolutely.

I’m gonna be very interested to see how NISA grows. I suspect Roots and clubs like Roots will leave NISA for the USL and stability if NISA falters.

Either way, I can’t wait for the game today and to see Zion I. That takes me back.

Not sure it was a full house but still raucous atmosphere. Zion I was dope. Red card was stupid. Equalizer could’ve been a winner.
