Union need a win coupled with an atl loss or draw... Or a union draw with an atl loss. Not feeling that we will get that since ATL is at home. But NE has pulled off some results recently and might want to try to get out of the last spot. I would definitely rather play New England than Toronto.
Atlanta with lots to prove at home gets a win, so our match won't really matter. However I think our team wants to try and shed some of the "limping" into the playoffs criticism that's been attached to them, so I think we win, too.
Note that the game starts at 4:25 PM. It's "Decision Day" so there is an extended pregame show for the national TV broadcast.
0.8ppg over their final 5 games to closeout the regular season. NER qualified for the final playoff spot with 1.32ppg on the season. Only Cincy had a ppg below 0.8 on the season. The Union will open the playoffs against a team that thoroughly outplayed them just 2 weeks ago on short rest with BWP starting on the bench. Some teams get hot going into the playoffs...other teams take a different approach.
I was full of hope after the Atlanta win and LA point. I should have known better. By far, this has been the most successful season for the team. But still, there is a nagging lack of belief. For sure, we have seen some improvements in character, but for every gutsy point earned (LA) there has been a toothless, inept loss (Columbus).
Eerily similar to last year where we lost back-to-back against NYCFC while employing the same tactics that lost us game #1. I still get a chuckle when I see it was the same exact scoreline, as well. On a positive note, though, at least we're at home against RBNY, so I still think we win.
Hopefully we will not have last minute scratch of a starter like yesterday or need to make an early sub of a critical player like last week. I think both of those really hurt us more than anything. Also, who the hell beside Curtin thinks we can play a high press with Ilsinho and Medujinan on the field? Maybe if the other team had a player or two sent off for red cards but not v a full strength team and not one with a lead
Limping into the playoffs seems to be a Union tradition. Hopefully Kacper and Alé will be able to play in the first playoff match.
