Wow! What bad news. She was a stud in the making. We desperately need some injury luck going forward. Clara, Brooke and Kristina need to get healthy. I was so looking forward to watching Emily going forward.
There were certainly some disagreements between player and coach last season including cultural differences and it led to a transfer.
I must be ill informed, because compared to other European, Central American, Carribean and Far East countries, I would think England and Canada to US would have the least cultural acclimation problems.
I love(d) Anna and wish her nothing but the best. As I've stated before, she brings a very good game including a high soccer IQ to the team. That said, athletically, she is simply not a fast twitch player. Darned genetics! I believe Mark was likely to switch Emily to CB and leave Gabby out wide. Now with this injury, we will see. Will he groom Clara for a CB position? Is she healthy yet?
We are literally 2 months from our first game. TCU Aug 22 at Tally. Woo. I'm assuming practice starts 2? or 3? weeks ahead. We'll know our roster including transfers and newbies then. OOC games against Wisconsin, UCLA and USC should provide ample tests.
https://www.staugustine.com/sports/...cki-at-heart-of-bears-run-to-state-semifinals If, and that is a big if with our team, she is good enough, she may get a chance to start this year, what with Emily being out again. Mark loves him some long throw ins. Hoping she's good enough to start. We'll see. Less than a month and a half until practice starts. Can't wait to see if there are any surprises on the roster.
So I was just watching the first half of Sweden and Germany. The first goal Germany scored was a thing of beauty. I'm always impressed by players who can so quickly transition from receiving a pass to shooting. Deyna and Zhao can do that even in somewhat difficult circumstances. Most college level players take time to receive, control and then try to dribble or shoot. By then it's closed down. I'm sure they practice these things, but it's not easy. I saw many instances in the season where players get a pass in the box, but it takes them too long from initial touch to shot. They frequently end up passing it back or dribbling around looking for something better.
What FSU home games do you suggest as best to see this fall? Watching the WWC this summer has me reinvigorated to get back to some live college soccer
Unless UF got a huge infusion of talent, I would guess UVA then Duke would be our most competitive games. Of course, it's always fun to beat the gators.
Maybe, but we never seem to play well against UF. Even in years past when their was an obvious talent disparity we have lost to UF.
I posted this over on WarChant, but some here may not visit there. I've been watching the WWC. I've been impressed with the level of competition. The gap between the US and the rest of the world is narrowing. Either France or England could beat the US w/o it being a huge upset IMO. A couple of areas where the top WWC teams are significantly better than the top college teams. 1. Heading. They head with precision and connect with their target a large percentage of the time. College teams seem to be happy to get a head on it and hope. 2. Connecting MF and front line passes with greater precision. 3. Handling pressure better, more deftly. FSU does this fairly well, but not at this level. Most college teams don't handle it well at all. An area where I believe (I'm probably wrong) FSU at least, does better. 1. Our Center Backs are more comfortable on the ball. These CBs at WWC rarely dribble up field and penetrate ala Malia Berkely. Maybe it's tactics, but MB and NK were more dangerous for us in the CB than the teams I'm seeing here. JMHO.
https://seminoles.com/world-cup-experience-to-help-carle-heading-into-2019/ Good article on Gabby. Looking for continue growth from her. Assuming good health, she will be key for us this year. She should get some preseason love from ACC and AA teams IMO. We'll see!
https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/201...dgxYbuiUUQuPQL4E8EwWTgW0EHAuYlriPkgXkfCcpteCE Near the bottom of the article, it talks about "players for the longer range future". About Jaelin it says, "MF Jaelin Howell — The 19-year-old has already been to a senior camp and was the midfield anchor for Florida State’s national title-winning team as a freshman. She’s already a good enough DM to help any team in the world that doesn’t have Ertz." I agree! Not surprised, but disappointed that Malia gets no mention. To me, she was the best CB at the College Cup not named Kuikka. Much more dangerous attacking than Girma and Cook who WERE mentioned. Maybe my garnet and gold glasses affect my vision.
