Ream is not only on the team but playing out of position. All the guys on the team that play in Big 4 leagues are going to play out of position! Incredible... That is the difference between Omar and Ream. Omar was discarded by a Liga MX team and Ream was playing serious minutes in the EPL.
It is reported that Weah wanted to play with the U20s. But we have no idea if he was given any choice. The fact Sargent was cut from the roster has to lead to the conclusion Weah was not choosing between the two rosters. At best, Weah was choosing what Sargent, Robinson and CCV got and the U20 World Cup. Seeing how Sargent, Robinson, and CCV were not given much of a shot to unseat Zardez, Lovitz, or Omar; he chose wisely.
Well FWIW, the big difference between Sargent and Weah is that Sargent isn't in the need of a new club. Weah is/was. Above all else, the u-20 WC is a glorified scouting combine.
One at a time....there are so many egregious roster screwups by Beerholder it's best to attack them one at a time. It's ok about Ream though, we have Long....sad times.
It is not like that play was an isolated incident. That foul that wasnt called reminded me of the goal against Honduras two games earlier and the play where Ream saved the ball off the line in the 3rd place game against Panama in 2015... except against Trinidad he at least got the man. Gonzo had the game of his life vs Belgium but absolutely horrendous all last cycle. There is not a player on the team that was more responsible for costing us results in the Hex. Good thing he is back to provide veteran leadership and get beat by attackers.
Cameron trying to force a pass late against Costa Rica is what put him to the bench.... at Honduras. Gonzo getting embarassed for their only goal and Cameron coming in and setting the defence is why people question Cameron staying on the bench for the last two games. Gonzo's mistake on the first goal at Costa Rica was worse than anything Brooks has ever done. Brooks got embarassed by quality, fast attacker, but Gonzo just didnt try with the game still tied. All of our defenders have made mistakes or just gotten beaten, but Gonzo was there consistently though last cycle. For some reason, some people want to make Alvarado, Brooks, and Cameron the scapegoats though.
Not about just making them the scapegoats. It's impossible to look at Gonzo and Ream and defend their play. Simply put, everyone (Egg/USSF supporters and critics) know these two are not good players. If you can't argue that they are good players, but they are key pieces in the current squad (that you support), what else is there? Denigrating the competition, of course. If Brooks and Cameron messed up once, and Gonzo/Ream messed up once, then there is no difference between them, and the correct selections have been made (or, at the very least, you can't argue about it as they are all equally at fault once).
Given what we have available, this will have to do. I'm not sure that lineup is terribly likely to win the tournament. Get out of the group, even in top spot--seems plausible (though Panama has given us fits recently in the GC). Get to the final--could be. Beat Mexico there? Would love to be wrong but I just don't see that at all.
While we're discussing Gonzo, I feel I have to share this irrelevant observation: Omar Gonzalez is clearly Hollywood actor Adam Driver with slightly different facial hair. Must be for a role he's playing.
Yup. On a combined blunder by Yedlin and Cameron. Great atmosphere in St. Louis that night, otherwise on a really surreal and sad day. St. Louis needs to get their SSS up and running soon because that city deserves more MNT games.
I do, because of hand issues. Sometimes it's absolutely wonderful, but sometimes it totally screws up on really simple stuff. And it sure is Hell hates homonyms. As well as confusing as and is, like it did in the last sentence.
That's like me looking forward to the secondary of this upcoming Lions season. We might be a decent team. this year, but strong parts are going to have to overcome the weak ones.
Lots of denigrating. Every (center) defender we played last cycle struggled at times. Not sure why we would look to any of them for veteran leadership now. If Brooks and Cameron didnt have their injuries, we probably go to the WC.
