Interesting. The Morris, Miazga, and Cannon inclusions are obviously the debatable ones.

I think I like Boyd over Morris, but Boyd's form seemed to fading after starting out well. Maybe he has a knock or something?

I'm torn on Miazga over Zimmerman. In terms of overall body of work with the USMNT, I think Miazga has been better, but I'd give Zimmerman a slight edge in this tournament.

I like Cannon over Lima. I thought Lima was poor against Curacao, and Cannon was good against Jamaica. I feel like Lima is good for 1-2 excellent crosses per game, while Cannon hasn't been great with his deliveries, but I'd give Cannon the edge in the other aspects of the position.

 

In 5 years, it's either him or Adams as the captain.

Almost identical to what I had hopespected. I figured Zimmerman would be in over Miazga--he's had a really good tournament.

 

I thought Zimmerman as well but differences aren’t great.

 

By the end of only his 2nd game in a NT shirt Boyd had created more chances than anyone not named Pulisic since 2018, yet has already been dropped.

Others get far longer leashes under GGG.

 

I'm pretty sure it comes down to him not playing tactically how Berhalter wants him to. He also had 13 turnovers in his last game. Thirteen.

I like Boyd and am excited for what he brings in the future, but I don't really have any argument against him not starting.

 

So what's Mexico's lineup, and how does that relate to their starting 11s throughout the tournament?

 

I think Berhalter likes Boyd just fine but he could sometimes appear to be singing from a different hymn book. He'll be back for friendlies, I'm sure.

 

I think McKennie is too young for Captain in this one but I don't think there was really anybody better anyway and McKennie will likely go full 90. I would have preferred Long.

 

Tonight we find out which national team is actually sh*t right now.

 

I'd say he was given the armband for this one as recognition for the overall good tournament he's had. And also, to continue not giving it to Bradley.
