We're working on something...we'll let you know!— The New Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge (@newfdmb) July 31, 2020 I might go to a topping off ceremony if announced. I was surprised to see what may be beams for decking already in. I would not attempt to retrieve the grill, Ultras. The building's demolition has begun.
If/when it fails The Rock can just make another terrible movie to recoup the investment. I hope you all enjoy Jumanji 3.
I think a 2nd tier football league is a potentially good investment right now. College football is on the precipice of disaster. Name and likeness issues, Covid destroying college athletic budgets, Pac12 players demanding impossible to deliver benefits. The NFL has used college football as their minor league system for free for too long. If the XFL came in with the intention of being a feeder system to the NFL and could manage how to make $ off of it a great strain could be removed from college programs. Title IX makes it impossible for college football to maintain their current tragectory.
I could get on board with anything that removes publicly funded colleges from being the unsubsidized minor leagues for US professional sports. When the head coach of Alabama football is the highest paid state employee, you have one ********ed up set of priorities. On the other hand, I'm planning a trip to the new national park Trump talked about yesterday -- Yo Semite. Who knew Yosemite Sam was Jewish?
So... I was looking through photos during the Final of MLS is Back and decided to finally post here. Then I put it off. I saw the post sitting in a tab and hit Post Reply this morning and the post was lost to the ether. ********. I'll try to recreate some of what was in the post about the area around EagleBank Field. Initially I was shocked that I have been saying I would dump some photos in here for several months and have not. As I alluded to and then eventually plainly said, I created an entire post about birds. Instead of highlighting the progress of construction in the area, I commented on photos of birds that I hate that happened to have the area in the background. Selecting photos to post back then made me realize that the birds were not in fact protecting their friend the groundhog, but a family of ducks. Ducklings could be seen in the the next photo in my roll. There are a few areas around Buzzard Point where it is common to see ducks congregating. Even after initially not posting photos, it was relatively easy to recreate photos week to week whether duck families or ospreys regularly diving to catch fish and eat on the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge or supports for the new bridge. It's too common to see terrifying turkey vultures East of the River and I know exactly where to look for bald eagles. I decided to scrap the bird post for the dump. ******** birds. More recently, I have used this thread to highlight the Ultras' grill is now inaccessible. Ok... I'll come clean. I wasn't trying to showcase the grill. The writing is on the wall. It was about the demolition of those buildings and the redevelopment of the neighboring building is what I will say. Here's a temporarily slightly less obstructed view of EagleBank Field. The construction around this building pissed me off the past two months. They put up mobile cameras around the site. If you got too close to the construction site, there would be an alarm and a warning to leave or police would be called. The problem is how late in the process the cameras were added and the area they were policing was more than the actual construction site. I would walk on the sidewalk or in the middle of the road and get warnings. I would witness others notI'm not sure if it was actively monitored and someone was ********ing with me because I look like someone who would steal appliances and not someone taking photos and giving additional attention to apartments. Also, black and blue signs right now aren't a great look. ******** that. ******** them. I think I've mentioned this in this thread before, but I hate that these banners that were put up to celebrate the history of the team have been allowed to fall for several months now. It's a simple thing that shows no real interest or care. During the time that the banners have fallen, an audi e-tron has been brought in and staged down there. (I admit I'm interested in a vw id.4 if they don't screw up the software and controls that should be simple like they have done with the id.3 that won't be available in the US.) Yes, those banners have been falling down for several months now. Landscaping had fallen off around the stadium too, but I have seen some crews working on that. Here are a couple more signs of not caring including the new lack of a sign... While redevelopment can be seen in the background, recently, a stop sign has gone missing and I'm assuming buses have hit the wayfinding too many times to fix so now all that is left is a white post. It still bothers me that the bleachers are still on site. There are storage containers sprinkled around the site include a pod in front of where the bike valet was to be replaced by a coffee place.
Here is progress of this building and they are now beginning to work on the paths/Anacostia Riverwalk around the building. Here are some views of the area from the new Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge.
The apartment building next to this is going vertical as well. I'm pretty sure I startled some people in Pennisula 88. Understandably, they likely weren't expecting to see someone photographing the building, but I saw something I had to photograph. To bring this all full circle, here is something I saw on Saturday. It wasn't until looking at the photos while preparing this post a couple days ago that I realized they are wild turkeys and not turkey vultures as I have become so accustomed to seeing in the park. As a Hokie, I am ashamed of myself for not realizing immediately. There were a few dozen in the location and I only took a handful of photos of them because turkey vultures have been some common. The ********ing birds were my inspiration to make a photo dump again. I ********ing hate birds. The final reason I had to post this dump now is this: 1293639508282560516 is not a valid tweet id As I was preparing this post, the tweet above was deleted. It was a tweet about the final arch being completed at 11 am. ******** them. They made me rush to post for nothing.
It's not like I took off from work and was standing in the rain... Final arch installation for the #NewFDMB has been postponed due to inclement weather this am. Stay tuned for more details! #RemakingTheBridge #FDMBArches #Progress— The New Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge (@newfdmb) August 13, 2020
@sitruc You're dead on with the condition of the stadium/bleachers lying around. It shows the club just doesn't care. Mow your lawn, paint the house, repair broken windodws if you care about your home. If you can't take care of the easy stuff, forget about the hard stuff like building a championship culture.
So I went to work and of course they only delayed until noon... https://app.truelook.com/?u=wc1520523497#tl_live
The US flag was taken down from one arch and now there is a larger US and DC flag. //from the webcam because that's much easier.
It's nearly Septober, I expect that tree to be decorated for xmas by the end of the day Then by April, I expect it to be causing major damage to the support it is located on top of, resulting in a 1M dollar repair.
Remember, in Trumpistan, the Christmas Warriors are always out there. Never can decorate a tree too early.
Multiple sources telling me #DCU has laid off another 10 or so front office employees across multiple departments; several in ticketing department. VP of ops (James Clark) included in layoffs. More details as I learn them...— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) August 14, 2020 I guess with everyone laid off conditions around AF will only get worse. I’m also surprised the club had more than 10 employees.
They need a few extra hamsters to keep running to keep the lights on. At least until the solar panels are up and running. Hamster feed is pricy.
