Why am I nor surprised that someone with the name "Adler" takes the eagle's side?Who speaks for the groundhog/woodchuck?
Just to clarify the post above: "Adler" means "eagle" in German and Yiddish. While I hope for some sympathy for the groundhog (he looks cute in Sitruc's photo) I have no idea what the German/Yiddish word for it is. I just don't want to see one carried away as an Audi Field game-day snack by Adler's eagle.
******** the birds. I guess ownership saw a LAFC game and realized some of United's identity was something worth using after letting the expansion teams have it all. ******** birds... this thread getting bumped made me realize I have full post about birds just waiting for me to hit "Post Reply."
#Breaking. Sad news, former DC City Administrator Allen Lew has died of coronavirus complications. Lew oversaw rebuilding of DC out of its bankruptcy years -- the convention center, the Nats ballpark, and dozens & dozens of schools and athletic fields. @kojoshow @wcp— Tom Sherwood (@tomsherwood) June 23, 2020 Wear masks. Listen to science. Don't be an asshole.
Regarding the passing of Allen Lew, I was reading the obituary in the Wash Post and came across this about Lew's time at the helm of DC Sports & Entertainment: "...where his first task was to turn the decrepit RFK Stadium — largely unused since the Washington Redskins departed the city for suburban Maryland in 1997 — into a temporary home for the city’s new Major League Baseball franchise." Sure enough, the obit was written by Marc Fisher.
And the Post has comments turned off for the obit, which may be its SOP but also means no one can point out there was already a tenant. F@#* Fisher!
Fisher is also one of the writers for that bizarre 2018 Tom Toles Halloween party article that ran a few days ago.
What a dick. If I were the guhzillionaire owner of DCU, I would send an open letter to the WashPost demanding a retraction and apology, lest I immediately buy-out the Audi naming rights deal and rename the place "Marc Fisher Stadium", complete with life-sized bronze statue suitable for toppling. The press release would state that AF was renamed "to honor perhaps DCU's greatest fan." Fisher's friends and colleagues would scheisse-torment him for the rest of his life. Passive-aggression at it's best.
b I know this is two weeks old but have been on travel; But I gotta pick at this scab: You buried the lede and didnt share this part of Fisher's drivel: "The renovation was finished just in time for the Washington Nationals’ inaugural season in 2005. Although the stadium lacked the amenities of modern ballparks and, some stadium officials contended, regularly hosted more rodents than fans, it quickly became beloved as a fan-friendly wreck with seats that bounced and aisles far wider than any modern designer would provide," while later giving Lew credit for Audi Field. Which is just another confirmation of what we have always known....
I actually saw four different groundhogs around Buzzard Point today. The one in these photos is the smallest one I saw. There was a much larger one in the same area that I nearly tripped over. I also saw an osprey grab/kill a small mammal/rodent of some type when I turned around to the new bridge construction after taking photos of that groundhog. It took it to the top of the temporary supports for the final arches. Hopefully it wasn't friend or family to one of the groundhogs. I've seen (likely the same osprey) grabbing fish the past two weeks. The water was looking high out there today. It was the first time in a while that I didn't see Canada geese. ******** the pigeons. I had this open in a tab to post a while ago, but their first game in the stadium is on espn2 right now... I can't get over how dumb USL is with fans in the stands (30% capacity for this one), but the stadium is similar to and better than United's in many ways.
We better have another Hokie ready to step up. Career update: after several years in the sports turf world I’ve decided to make the jump to the golf turf side of things and will be starting Monday as an assistant super at the Federal club. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/07/16/nationals-dc-coronavirus-nats-park/ Will there be any more Audi Field experiences this season?
Those of us who decided not to start a 2020 version of this thread must have been prescient ... or lazy
I dunno, well, yes and no. I mean Elvis was there. It's like in Office Space when Peter is told that Lumbergh already got Joanna....
