    I don't think this is a Yamaguchi kind-of scenario.

Hotaru Yamaguchi went to Europe just to not play in Hannover and coming back to Cerezo just after six months.

Uh, Hotaru Yamaguchi played 410 minutes in 6 Buli matches. Gen Shoji played 45 minutes in one single Ligue 1 match. The former was injured for 7 of 17 possible matches, all at the end of his stint. The latter was injured for 20 of 22 possible matches.

True, there he only "missed" the 3rd place match at the FIFA Club WC and played ever possible match minutes otherwise.

Thats what makes this even worse. He was a starter. And I feel injuries should not be the reason the goes back home. He goes back with the tail between his legs.

Still don't know what a Yamaguchi like scenario would be, but I think Shoji could have asked to do his physical rehab in Japan and rejoin Toulouse once fit again. On the other hand if Gamba indeed offered 2 mil (according to Transfermarkt) for a long time injured player I doubt there are many clubs saying no to such offers.

Shoji pointedly claimed that there were problems with the Toulouse medical staff during his rehab.

Lack of trust in the medical staff is a sensible reason to leave.
