Germany is a federal system, though it does not come into play as much as it does here. But some of the decisions were made by German state health officials before the federal government.
Wouldn’t be too surprised about Paderborn, as they recently were promoted and have a recent history of turbulence. A storied club like Schalke? As rich a club as they are? Wow. That would be a tragedy. (Not to say that the bankruptcy of *any* club *isn’t* a tragedy.) I have a soft spot in my heart for Werder Bremen. Seems like kind of an underdog type of club. What a shame. As for the Ohio connection, I was going to guess the father of NFL placekickers Chris and Matt Bahr, but I looked that up and my guess was incorrect.
I'm guessing Schalke is not as rich as it would seem. The connection is a placekicker with the Bengals.
Correct. He had the first shutout in Bundesliga history as a goalie for Schalke (to be fair, he was one of two along with Cologne's Ewert). https://www.kicker.de/20092/schema/fc-schalke-04-2/vfb-stuttgart-11
Just threw $160 on Brest. Gotta love that they are streaming all the games on YouTube so I don't have to hunt down pirate streams.
Aaaaaaand Brest drills a shot into the upper 90. We're getting takeout at the DnD residence tonight !
Dresden will miss the first two matches of the 2. Bundesliga restart. Two new cases in the team and a mandatory 14 day quarantine for them all.
Three Vitoria Guimaeres players tested positive for Covid. Hard to imagine Liga Nos starting up at the end of the month as planned. In Italy last week we had a Torino player test positive and 3 Fiorentina players. I want nothing more in the sports world than to watch Liga Nos and Serie A. But they should just cancel the seasons.
Decided to turn into the Bundesliga match that's just starting. I have the following question: Who is the PA announcer speaking to?
The few dozen or so players in the stadium, I guess.... When the did the "ghost game" in Gladbach two months ago, they followed the normal game day routine, including music and player announcements.... I have heard that some of that is not being done now, such as players walking out together, the pregame lineup, and handshakes, and team photos. Edit: Supposedly Sky Germany is adding in crowd songs, etc. to their broadcast.
Yes--as a player. Not a head coach at Schalke (that's currently held by another German-American, David Wagner). May have been an assistant, but that is not clear.
