The league has been non-specific about the start date for potential new teams, preferring to say things like they are "close" to completing negotiations with a certain number of potential ownership groups.

The league has also said that stadium issues are the biggest obstacle to the potential new teams.

Given that no new teams have yet been announced and that we are entering the less friendly portion of the calendar for construction (i.e. winter) my guess is that we won't see any new teams until at least 2021.

Ottawa would have been a 2020 possibility but we know how that worked out.

That's very unfortunate, I'd like to see the game grow in Canada but I believe that for the league to be successful there should be at least 10 teams and in the future looking to be 14-18 by the 2026 World Cup.

Cities that should be represented imo should be:
Surrey, Saskatoon or Regina, Mississauga, Ottawa, Quebec City, Laval, and St. Johns.

7 teams that range from BC, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland.

That would bring the total to
Ontario: 4 teams (Ottawa is technically in Ontario but lies pretty much at the border of Ontario and Quebec)
    Quebec: 2 teams
    BC: 2 teams
    Alberta: 2 teams
    Newfoundland: 1 team
    Nova Scotia: 1 team
    Saskatchewan: 1 team
    Manitoba: 1 team

Also none of this 10 game spring season, 18 game fall season. Make it all 1 season. With 14 teams you can make everyone play each other home and away with 14 teams(26 games for each team) and then go straight to playoffs as there will be more teams have a top 8 make playoffs or if you want to be more inclusive top 6 make it, 7th plays 10th and 8th plays 9th for a battle to make the final 2 playoff spots.

There's a lot that the CSA can do

I wasn't suggesting there won't be any new teams, just not for 2020. I expect to see new teams come and, unfortunately, some go as well. That's common for a new league. I'm not sure what the final number will be. I'd be happy with a stable, strong ten to twelve team league but others are more optimistic.

The CSA helped the league get off the ground. Now I think it's more up to the ownership groups to make it work as a business.
