YB crash out after a draw in Serbia. Three teams in the EL group stages. Basel will be in pot 1 YB in pot 2 Lugano pot 4 Although a disappointment for both YB and Basel, both could get quite a few coefficient points in the EL.
I'm not as bullish on the Swiss teams in Europe right now. YB looked completely inept in front of goal yesterday. It's incredible how much they rely on Hoarau to carry them. Basel will be focusing on the league to keep it close, so I think they'll ignore Europe. I want to see the draw before I make further suggestions, but, based on their showings so far, I'm not holding a lot of confidence in Swiss teams right now.
Thursday RESULTS: Basel 5-0 Krasnador Porto 2-1 Young Boys Copenhagen 1-0 Lugano 3 October Matches: Young Boys - Rangers Lugano - Dynamo Kiev Trabzonspor - Basel
Not surprised by the Basel win. They are playing well right now. I was looking for more from YB, and Lugano vs Copenhagen was a good surprise.
EL matches today 3 October Matches: Young Boys - Rangers - YB win Lugano - Dynamo Kiev - Lugano loss Trabzonspor - Basel - Basel draw My predictions
Almost all correct. YB win, Basel draw and Lugano draw. Good night for Swiss teams, too bad good nights are so few and far between.
Malmo - Lugano 2-1 Getafe - Basel 0-1 YB - Feyenoord 2-1 Nice away win for Basel. Lugano is in 4th place with 1 point. Basel in fist with 7. Getafe is in 2nd with 6. YB in first with 6 points.
Last chance for Lugano to get points, they can not advance. YB and Basel. Basel is home to last place Trabzonspor. YB away to 1st place Rangers. YB needs a win to advance.
Dec. 12 - today's results: Dynamo Kyiv 1-1 Lugano Basel 2-0 Trabzonspor Rangers 1-1 Young Boys Basel finished first in Group C Young Boys needed a road win to finish 2nd in Group G Lugano finished fourth in Group B. Monday, Basel will find out their Round of 32 opponent.
YB had done well in the competition only to fizzle out... and to lose to Rangers yet! I am always amazed at any success Celtic or Rangers have considering how weak the SPL is.
A great start by Basel (from uefa.com): GSP Stadium - Nicosia 20/02/2020 Round of 32 , 1st leg APOEL 0-3 Basel Petretta 16 Stocker 53 Cabral 66 Second leg: Basel, 27 February
Basel did well, and have seemingly wrapped up this tie. Given their form as of late, I thought this would be a tougher contest. Glad to see them making the most of this opportunity. I'd like to see them go far.
St. Jakob-Park - Basel 27/02/2020 Agg: 4-0 Basel 1-0 APOEL F. Frei 38 (P) MATCH SUMMARY Frei scores from the penalty spot De Vincenti misses from the spot for APOEL. Round of 16 draw Mar 12: Frankfurt - FC Basel Mar 19: FC Basel - Frankfurt Frankfurt easily dismissed RB Salzburg in the Round of 32.
So if Basel plays really well, they might be able to defeat Frankfurt. I am not too optimistic though.
