3rd place, a trophy, and a CL semifinals run? That's called a pretty damn good season - all but three or four teams in the world would be ecstatic with that. I don't know that we can keep our concentration in the league given last years disappointment. And other than the real aberration, the CL has proven almost impossible to win back-to-back, so I'm siding with history on that one. I hope I'm wrong.
Yeah, I have a feeling the rampant expectations by some in the Liverpool fanbase is going to warrant in a lot of undeserved criticism during this season. Matching 97 points and Champions League victory is going to be hard, winning the league even harder. Finishing 2nd or 3rd and winning a domestic trophy and having a decent Champions League run is a success in my book, especially as the seasons we finished 2nd under Rafa, Rodgers and Houllier all resulted in major meltdowns means that my expectations are extremely cautious.
'Tips/Pikas - rampant expectations my Butt! How many leagues/cups are we in...doesn't matter. We win them all! Kick ass then take names! I'm a fan, which is short for fanatic, which means I'm allowed to be over-exuberant! This isn't like expecting sex with the wife every night, you know? I've learned to deal with the disappointment of too high expectations - doesn't mean I can't still have them.
I'm a fan, too, and want us to win 7 trophies this year. I expect us to do our best to win each of the 7 trophies. But I also understand that it's improbable we'll do so and I'm predicting where we'll actually succeed and 'falter.'
OK but Klopp so far has always fielded weak teams in the FA and the League Cups, so if he continues that way our chances of success in those comps are low, and I think less than our chances in the CL where he'll go all out as usual.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/48969062 Liverpool in 2019-20: Seven trophies on offer for Jurgen Klopp's Reds If Liverpool go all the way in each competition, they are likely to play 67 games across exactly 300 days - an average of a game every 4.5 days. They will play a minimum of 50 matches if they get knocked out of every cup immediately.
That's an intense amount of football ahead of the squad this season. It will deffo be a real test of the squad.

the guardian says we'll come 2nd again https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/aug/02/premier-league-201920-preview-no-10-liverpool
absolutely. I fully expect Klopp to not bother with the League and FA Cups. I'd also like him to phone it in for the UEFA SUper Cup and the Qatar nonsense.
City was able to win both domestic cups without bothering last season. It all depends on the draw. They got the easiest draw imaginable while we got the toughest draw in both cups. The world club cup might not be as bad as it seems. The team will get to enjoy some warm weather in the middle of December. We can play the 2nd team in the semi final which should not be against the most difficult opposition. Hopefully we can then win the thing with our first team in the final, and return for Boxing Day in great shape to push on.
the Super Cup = travelling long distances and playing in steaming hot temps. ppl said those issues caused us to play really poorly in preseason ... but in December, a crazy time of the season for fixture backlog, it's OK to interrupt normal training and game-prep routines and go through more of the same? all in the hope of winning a FIFA-cash-grab "title" that didn't even exist 16 years ago, and the last 2 winners of which I would guess very few of us (without looking it up) could name? not for me ..... when the games roll around I'll want us to win of course but I'd much prefer not to even take part. anything that makes us lose focus on the real prizes, tires the team and risks injuries should be avoided if at all possible.
We do this every year, the talk about what a "prediction" is... people who pick Liverpool to win a treble aren't participating in the same exercise as I am. Wingtips predictions look pretty accurate, IMO: - Depending on the draw I expect this side to go deep into CL, quarters or semis. - They just aren't winning the league, there's no reason to think it's going to happen. You'd basically be betting on a bunch of bad luck for City IMO... they are just better, and will win again - Now they might have the depth (if they stay healthy) to compete in domestic cups, so I wouldn't mind getting some decent draws to see how far they could get I'll fill out all the categories next week once transfers are all wrapped up.
Wow newterp... love those predictions. Elliot best young surprise, Keita most improved, CL title... this looks like a fun year. Fingers crossed you are right. And I too think Pulisic will be disappointing. But part of me feels like he could be really good and just Chelsea will struggle.
He'd need to be twice as good as he can be, to be half as good as Hazard. Hazard and Van Dyke and Mane were the three best players in the premiership last year.
