Missing WC2016 was not a disaster for us soccer, as had been feared. It certainly hurt, and I do not want to minimize the pain, but it did not destroy the growth of us soccer.
Sometimes not qualifying can help you appreciate a World Cup more. An ein Englander it's happened to me 3 times and they are probably the 3 World Cups I remember most fondly, 74, 78 and 94.
