With the end of 2018.... players I’d look to offload:

    Offload:
All three DPs: Martinez, Barco, and Almiron. That’s right. Almiron is already one foot out the door, Martinez has been USL level since he broke the record, and Barco has been just above USL level since he’s been with the team. We’ve got the funds, new coach coming in, let’s see what we can start over with. Note, we might still be stuck with Barco unfortunately who was our first disaster DP, but I think we can fetch a decent offer for Martinez.

Also I’d think about letting go of Parkhurst and Larentowicz.... that or I’d look to make them bench options for the next season. The writing is on the wall. They’re getting old.

Chris McCann... god, this man is not a left sided winger/wingback. And we’re playing a lot of money for a player who is stuffing out that side of our attack.

Greg Garza... no point in paying him what we are when he can’t stay healthy.

Romario Williams... for a back up CF, he didn’t don squat for us.

Hernandez, Zizzo... obviously not good enough.

    Keep:
Tito Villalba. With the offloading of Almiron and should be Martinez and Barco, Villalba still looks to be a key player with his speed and strength.

Remedi and Nagbe... I’d like to see what they can do with now some time between them.

Guzan... still a top keeper in MLS.

LGP... I’d have him now fill Parky’s spot.

Gressel... he’s our man with a plan.

Escobar... he’s done enough good to keep around.

Kratz... seems like a decent sub option off the bench, but note I’d listen to offers.

See if we can keep off the books but keep with second team:
Shannon, Wilde, Gallagher, Ambrose, Wheeler... otherwise look to cut.

Young players who I’d give more time to:
    Miles Robinson
    George Bello
    Brandon Vazquez

    Unsure:
Andrew Carleton... either play him next year or offload him.

Parkhurst and Larentowicz... see above. They’re getting old.

    who to bring in:
Bring in Pity, two of the best CFs we can buy, and a another LGP quality CB. Perhaps also look to see if trade in Garza, Hernandez, and McCann...can we get some decent cover at LB.

Thoughts if we should try to make a trade for Danilo Acosta? If RSL would trade for Garza, I’d go for it.

Question... who do we protect in next years expansion draft?

From what at least I think I know HGP are protected and DPs aren’t really picked

    That leaves who i’d protect

    1. LGP
    2. Villalba
    3. Gressel
    4. Escobar
    5. Nagbe
    6. Remedi
    7. Guzan
    8. Garza
    9. Robinson
    10. Vasquez
    11. Kratz

Leaves unprotected: Parkhurst, Larentowicz, Williams, Hernandez, Zizzo, McCann, Ambrose, Gallagher, Shannon, Wilde, Hildebrandt, Wheeler,

Who i’d expect from this group to be picked: Romario Williams. Which, IMO, would be fine for both parties.

I like the list but in this scenario I'd actually see Parkhurst getting snapped up. The experience and leadership on a brand new team would be invaluable.

In fact, I'd expect Atlanta to work a trade to keep Cincy off some of our exposed guys. Perhaps sending Romario Williams and a lower round superdraft pick to not take an Atlanta player.

Gallagher being exposed would be a worry for me as well. He had 6 goals for the USL squad and is only 22. I'd rather expose McCann and Garza than Parky and Gallagher.

I’m almost willing to expose Parkhurst for the fact he’s so old. We got lucky we got a good season out of him this year but each year is a roll of the dice. It’s just a lot to ask a 35 year old.

Agreed. I know it's probably an unpopular opinion because by all accounts he seems to be a great guy and a fantastic veteran presence in the locker-room, but I would hope we're looking to upgrade at his position.

No one is picking a 35 year old veteran in the expansion draft. Might was well say you are protecting VFish.
