The Dynamo will need around 50 points to qualify this year. As of 8/13 they have 27 points. They would need about 8 wins out of the last 11 games left. It could be done but I don’t see this happening.
Look at sports club stats.com, they have the Dynamo percentage chance of making it in playoffs at 11.4% overall. At 48 points, they give it a 57% chance which is what I look more at. 47 points is 37%. Say the line slips a little and 47 is the magic number or 20 more points in 11 games. To do that it requires likely 6 wins and a few draws. And the Dynamo only have 5 more home games so you have to think they need a few road wins since they won’t go 5-0-6 the rest of the way. Other issue is there are more teams in the mix after a few hot streaks by Minnesota and Seattle which complicates things. Either way, Dynamo need to win about as many games in the last 11 (6) as they have in the first 23 (7).
Here is a projection based on how teams have done so far this season. It figures the home and away PPG so far and projects that over the rest of the year. EAST 1 NYR 69.03 pts 2 ATL 68.24 --------------------- 3 NYC 66.58 4 CLB 53.85 5 DCU 46.55 6 PHI 44.69 ----------------------- 7 MTL 41.63 8 NER 41.06 9 TFC 34.39 10 ORL 32.58 11 CHI 31.06 WEST 1 FCD 64.32 pts 2 POR 59.19 ----------------- 3 SKC 57.95 4 LAX 53.57 5 LAG 51.0 6 VAN 47.67 ------------------------- 7 RSL 46.96 8 SEA 45.05 9 HOU 39.15 10 MIN 38.87 11 COR 32.09 12 SJE 23.67 Last year on July 24 it predicted that 46 points would be enough to make the playoffs in the West. San Jose wound up winning the tie-breaker with Dallas at 46 points to get the last spot.
Watch our boys win the Open Cup, get on a run and win 5 of the last 11...fall 1 point shy of the Wild Card spot. Canetti signs on for 5 more years!
Thinking about playoffs with the number of teams in front of them and their remaining schedule is just nuts. 6 of the final 8 on the road, and all tough matches. For a team that can't win on the road (or lately at home), there's a better chance of an 11th place finish than there is a playoff appearance.
But given the way Canetti celebrated the US Open Cup semifinal win, I take it that he assumes that the US Open Cup will save his job.
Is it too early to pick rooting interests? I'm going with Portland and Toronto. Assuming we're on the outside looking in.
With the Dynamo's track record of dumb choices, I'm fairly certain they will piss the US Cup final away trying to save players for a playoff run.
Dynamo down to 3.4% chance of making playoffs. 30 points remaining, probably need 20 of 30 to qualify. http://www.sportsclubstats.com/USA/Houston.html
Why is there a thread about 2018 playoffs in the Dynamo forum? This makes no sense at all to me. Team is -12 on the table. Right now playoffs cutline is -1. No way do the Dynamo win all home games and 3 road games (assuming the cutline drops a couple points.)
I consider this harsh -- and kinda crazy. Everyone should celebrate the semi-final victory. I think if he had not celebrated you would find a way to criticize him for not doing so. Look -- I'm not defending the guy. I think this franchise has disintegrated to the worst in the league under his leadership -- though Brener is the main culprit none of the top management (President, GM, Coach) should be retained. But I believe in being fair to them. Unless Brener is forced to sell this franchise will be just like Chivas USA and eventually be moved.
I only say it because I've never seen him celebrate anything before. If you watch the video, it is also the nature of the celebration. It was more like an almost break down and cry like a pressure valve being released.
Dynamo calculated playoff chances almost down to John Blutarski GPA levels: http://www.sportsclubstats.com/USA/Houston.html
PSV has turned his team into a far worse shit show than ours, despite the on field performances. And I don't see our team being moved. Brener being forced out or into a minority position is most likely scenario.
lol not going to happen.... not even a chance in hell. not unless the FO sold their souls to the devil himself....
