Ironic because Martinez was criticized for playing De Bruyne too deep early in the tournament. France are definitely better than they were two years ago because they're older, more experienced, have Mbappe, and Varane isn't injured. Their attack has been bland for the most part, however they're very difficult to break down. If England get to the final we have nothing to fear against France, but they'll be tough to beat.

Impressive .. They played the same teams as England in the groups and did nothing special . They basically got lucky against a mediocre Japan team ( remember that game ?). A rather disappointing final. A dive followed by an own goal. Then a handball on VAR which didn't look like a 'clear and obvious error' which is what's meant to be required to change the decision. Also we had a Lloris howler for another, rather undeserved, goal. But some great play by the Croatian defender, Veda and Mbappe for the French so there's that. Still... we'll get them next time, eh fellas?!

Wasn't the French player offside behind Mandzukic for the first goal too? It was an odd final. The Croatian keeper probably could have done better with the final two goals but maybe it's his injury issues finally fully showing up. It just shows how key getting breaks at the right time are in tournament football.
