All I have to say to the Fire FO, don't tear it all down after the season is complete. This is something special. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season now.
Ummm.... I kinda disagree.... Country first (ugh...saying that makes feel stupid like the 46%) Sure, Hungary are 8pts behind portugal with 12 points to go, but on Sep 3 Hungary hosts Portugal...that is a big game right there. If they lose...then fine Hungary is eliminated and Nemanja can stay with the Fire for the Oct dates. Then again he hasn't appeared for Hungary since he moved to MLS.... Good for the Fire I guess..
What makes anyone think that he WOULD pan out? The guy has played 5 competitive games 2013, 19 for his career and NONE in a top division. I am more than a little sick of the "let's throw crap at the wall and see what sticks approach" when the problem was completely unnecessary and the result of Fire mismanagement. We have been down this road for years, more often than not the players do not stick. They are just crap. Plus it is worse if he DOES pan out, a bit. Then we are on the hook for ridiculous salary for a goalkeeper by MLS standards. Hell, a few people were viciously calling out Sean Johnson last season for making $250,000, as an experienced starter. Why should we pay $200,000 for a guy who could not play for F_C Dallas, and barely for some second division Mexican team. Let's show some actual ambition and sign a quality goal keeper.
I think he is the "backup" with Bava out. His half season salary is the league minimum and if the Fire pick him up next season, he will be in the 200k+ range. I think the Fire will take a look at him and decline. I still think it's shocking that Lampson is making ~75k and Bava is making around ~250k. It's going to get to a point where Lampson is going to need to get paid higher or Bava is going to be let go for injury problems while Johnson is making the same thing in NYC.
this is especially galling when paired with the arguments from various and sundry Nimrod defenders. I was gonna write a long-winded analysis of Nimrod's performance, but suffice it to say only Nikolic is really a credit to his supposed competence IMO, and that is offset by my concern about roster depth and sustainability. I don't think this is a concern - they'll decline his option and if they like him, and he likes us, re-sign him at a lower rate. This has become standard business practice in MLS for GA players that don't meet expectations. we'll have to find one by accident - there's no cap space to get a guaranteed upgrade.
I guess my goalkeeper comments should be addressed to the (yet to be created) 2018 Roster Speculation Thread. The point is that, of course, there is no harm to signing this kid at this point, but there is very little upside to it, either. He will cost us next to nothing this season, which is just slightly more than it would cost for the Fire to sign any of us, and we all have the same amount of top league experience. For this year, if he is the "back up" to son of Lamp, and is called into duty, do we really want a guy with ZERO games of top league experience (and less then 20 games of professional experience) to be in goal? I would say no. If he is signed as the "future" goalkeeper, do we really want to pay $200,000 for F_C_Dallas' mistake? Yes, we might be able to renegotiate. Well, maybe he will train "happily" and get in a few games for the Fire's USL team (oops!). Overall, I would prefer an experienced back up.
Looks like we might be without Dax McCarty for a while, as he has been called up for the next round of World Cup Qualifying. He looks almost certain to miss the Montreal trip (although not likely the Red Bulls game). http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...l-world-cup-qualifiers-vs-costa-rica-honduras https://www.chicago-fire.com/post/2...elder-dax-mccarty-called-world-cup-qualifiers Does Bruce Arena pick players based upon whether or not they "practice cheerfully"?
I suspect it's related to what management guru self-help book they got from Andy as a performance bonus. If Nimrod starts talking about "architecting" the squad for success, I'm out.
I didn't realize how many more injured the Fire had. No squad but RSL is even close so while many of us wallowers knew there was a depth issue, these are the times that try men's (and women's and trans people's) souls.
Should have put this in here instead Orrin Schwarz @Orrin_Schwarz 40s German forward Max Beister on trial with #cf97 today
A forward who in the last 5 years has played a total of 20 games and scored one goal? That sounds more like the Chicago Fire signing I have come to expect. The hit rate had been getting a bit too high lately.
I vote for: Harrington Nelson Rodriguez Paunovic to DC United immediately. Oh, and send Alex to DC as well. He could stand to retire due to a head injury. Before anyone goes on an all out attack, this is a joke. Head injuries are very serious and I don't wish a head injury on anyone.
