2017-2018 Serie A Prediction Tournament

Ok everyone its time to put your reputation where your mouth is. The start of the 2017-8 season is less than a week away and here comes your opportunity to show other posters on these boards just how much more than everyone else you really know about football. Or you may just be taking part to have a bit of fun, either way, the more the merrier.

Rules for scoring (same as last few years):

3 points for exact score.
1 pt. for correct result.
Bonus 2 points for the highest weekly tip.

OK fellow tipsters. I've been thinking about how I could maybe spruce up this competition and so I came up with the following idea.

As well as running the regular tipping competition what I thought would be a good idea is to add an extra odds based scoring system so that if you pick say an upset that would be worth extra points than if a favourite wins. I'm not intending to replace the old competition, the plan is to run this competition concurrently.

Here are the current odds that I'll use for Round 1:

So for example if you correctly pick Juventus to win you earn 0.12 points vs 7.00 points for correctly picking a draw. If you get the result wrong your score is -1.

I'm toying with the idea of giving points based on odds for correct scores but not sure if I'll do that yet.

Let me know if you DO NOT want to be involved so I can leave you out of this side comp if need be.

 

Tips were in general high across the board at the start of this new season with less than half of tipsters failing to make it into double figures. @ KensingtonSC and @ Gilbertsson hit the ground running with good scores of 12 and so earn themselves two bonus points each. Last years winner @totti fan finds himself in equal last place 8 points behind the lead but with 37 rounds left and 1,110 points still to play for its still anyones game.

Scores in the ODDS based tipping competition were surprisingly strong. I have participated in competitions of this sort before but this is the first one I've run and so wasn't sure what to expect. With net scores (most of you in fact) in the positive you are well and truly testing the saying that the "house always wins". Of course I would encourage you all to treat these results cautiously because they are not yet statistically significant and so before you go off to sell everything that's not bolted down to fund your gambling habit I would suggest you wait at the very least a few weeks to see if you can remain in the black.

The leader is slightly different in this comp as those of you who are maverick tipsters or maybe just loyal to a fault are going to be rewarded if the results went your way. @shizzle787 is the front runner at this stage mainly because he/she was able to pick the result of the Lazio/SPAL encounter (wow?!?!). Anyone with red scores means your points are negative.

Because we all go to the effort of not just predicting the result but also the exact score I've also added a scoreboard based on correct score odds. @ KensingtonSC is the clear leader mainly on the strength of picking the correct Milan scoreline. These scores include WIN-DRAW-WIN values in the total.
