2017/18 Offseason Player Movement & Rumors

What is the minimum that the Union can do by opening day to get everyone excited for the season? Here is my take:

A DP goal scorer with MLS experience
A creative, attacking mid fielder
A solid senior center back who can provide leadership on the field
A recognized name that will sell shirts, get people out to the stadium, and contribute on the field.

If they can do this in time to play together in the preseason, I will be pleasantly surprised.

The first three were their stated goals last year, and we got:
Jay Simpson
"Roland Alberg will come back fit and motivated"
And... Oguchi Onyewu (who turned out to be decent, but still...)

 

They can have a 2011 testimonial to celebrate the retirement of all their old fans.

I'd be happy with all of those things but we'll get Judge Smailed, nothing and we'll like it.

I still have that "We Want the Cup" thing. I laugh every time I open that particular cabinet door.

Yep. This time of year I'm stoked to get a new jersey, planning my spring trip to FL, waiting for March!

This year, i'm bummed about watching our new USL team. Just really jealous of all of the other teams who get all those new shiny things that we want. Damn you Santa Claus... I mean Sugarman!

 

We need a 10, a winger, a LB, veteran CB, and some depth. We can do it, right?

So I checked thesaurus.com for nicer ways to say “local” and these are my top 5:

Provincial
Parochial
Territorial
Geographic
Sectional

When the FO’s ready for some fancy words in their press releases, I have a very reasonable rate.

 

What is the chance that their search finds Curtin? Then, they would have to find a head coach.

 

All it takes is one intern to find him on LinkedIn and it could happen.

 

So have we been the most stagnant team of the offseason so far? Sure feels that way.

 

nah, we got ayuk.

 

And a coach left. That's technically not being stagnant.

 

Actually, TWO coaches have left, 1st Oka Nikolov, and now Sorber. We are clearly using the same approach for both the player roster and the coaching staff: start the offseason by offloading all the high-priced vets to free up cap space, and then wait to replace them until all the other teams are done with their holiday shopping to scour the day-after sales for great bargains.

 

I never expect significant additions, but usually there are at least some loose rumors floating around during the off-season.
