^ Ew. Last year seemed to fade out pretty fast after the draft was done. I think we need a return to the basics: draft and discussion. No midseason draft, no trades, etc. But regardless, I'm in.
I think what took some of the steam out was how long it took people to pick. I'd add I'm fine with no midseason draft and trades... But I do like the idea of the world cup format.
I might recommend, something on these lines... (obviously welcome critique on this rule) 6 (or 8) hour time limit with a 6 (or 4) hour penalty time.... Meaning.... If you don't get that vote in during that first window, you'll receive a penalty. Which, your time in the next round is only limited to the first window. The penalty will only apply for the next round. Just something to maybe help us speed up the drafting process.
I was more thinking the supplemental draft in June and the post-draft trades seemed to be lacking last year. I, as well, do like the World Cup format (although, I guess, 3 groups of 4? 4 groups of 3?). I also agree with shorter draft times. I'd like to try 8 hours. My argument against shorter draft times before was that people work, but seeing how slow the draft gets at times, I'm willing to risk it. I don't agree with penalties if you miss your window, as selecting later is a penalty enough. There are an abundant amount of credible reasons to miss your window for it to be held against you if that's the case.
@bmo180 @storming yank @Mr Martin @deuteronomy @Harper916 @Hararea @Footsatt @ussoccer97531 Who else might be interested?
I am always interested, but my free time is more limited this year. I'll play, but not organize. I was sorry that we never got a voting tournament to work post draft last year. That was fun the year before. Plus, I was surprised at how few trades there were post-draft, considering how keen some people were to have trading. Deuts and I turned out to be more interested in trades than other teams, even though I was somewhat skeptical of the concept at first. This year there was no interest in the summer supplemental draft, and I'm indifferent about keeping that. I have been fumbling around for several years with options for speeding the winter draft. We always talk about it, but then back off. I'm flexible. My favorite idea still is to allow each team 1 or 2 "wildcards" in which they can choose to jump ahead of the team ahead of them if (for example) 6 hours has already gone by in a turn without a pick. We would keep the 12-hour normal maximum, but add some incentive for teams to keep things moving or risk being jumped.
I'm there with you too on organizing... I would be willing/wanting to play, but my work schedule would prevent me from being able to organize by myself alone. I'd be glad to do whatever I can on my part though.
Let me add invites to, @gunnerfan7 @gsterp @dlokteff @truefan420 @Balerion @Real Corona @Clint Eastwood @BostonRed @Sam Hamwich @MPNumber9 @TrueCrew @Sebsasour @GiallorossiYank @cpwilson80 @Jazzy Altidore @keller4president @USAMEX10 @Dave Marino-Nachison @bungadiri Im mostly listing just the names that pop off my head who are regular posters on the US boards. Obviously, anyone else who is interested... Even if it is your first year.
So, right now we have: Eleven Bravo Truefan420 (looking for a partner) AutoPenalti Mr Martin (and I'm guessing Deuteronomy included) Soccersubjectively Joe cleats Who else?
Awesome. If you have any questions during the draft you can either PM or ask the group. Once we go through the first couple stages, you'll get the hang of it. We'll go through all the rules before we get started.
I'm brand new to posting here as well, but am really interested in doing this. Would love to participate, but could somebody send me a message and let me know a little more about it?
Let me say to anyone who is new, and has questions, it seems more complicated than it really is. The only thing to consider is that it can be time consuming and requires you to check in regularly (at least a couple times a day even) Anyone who commits to play, we will make sure everyone on board, new and old, has a good understanding before we begin. Right now, we are just trying to see who all is interested. Ideally, we want to try and get 12 teams. I would be willing to partner with someone, but I want to make sure we have 12 teams first.
I'm sure that I'll pick it up once the rules are posted, excited for the opportunity to be a part of the draft.
