Hall? He's a utility player, plays all across the midfield and back line. He's gotten a lot of minutes in MLS over the years mostly because he plays so many positions and has been seen as a good player to have in the 18 as injury cover. But that also makes him a good bargaining chip in a trade, which is probably why he's moved so much. His best position is probably right back (he was a right mid in college), but he's probably played more minutes at defensive midfield in his MLS career because that's where his clubs have had more injuries. On Sunday he started in central midfield, and then moved to right back in the second half when Colvey was subbed out.
As many of you know, Foran and Kiffe are one yellow card away from a suspension. http://scratchingthepitch.com/2016/07/27/usl-discipline-report-week-18/ Ivan Mirkovic has accumulated 7 yellows and is one away from a 2nd suspension.
Jahn traded by Quakes. http://www.sjearthquakes.com/post/2016/07/29/earthquakes-trade-adam-jahn-columbus-crew-sc I personally liked him in the Republic lineup. Big body up front.
Re: Republic depth up top. I'm told that Sacramento offered a contract to Christian Cheney from the Fresno Fuego, but he turned it down 1/2— Evan Ream (@EvanReam) July 30, 2016
Interesting that he turned down an opportunity to move up. Does he have other offers? Did he feel it wasn't the right situation?
I liked him, too. It sounds like Columbus will use him as a late game big body, like SJ did. Perhaps more often, though. It will be strange not having him in Northern California. Best of luck to him.
Just a random thought but when we go up who will make the jump to MLS? I think Klimenta is good enough to play there but not sure who else.
Perhaps Kiffe, but if his upside was MLS I think he would be there by now. We'll see how Williams and Trickett-Smith develop.
If Sac isn't in MLS until 2020, I don't think any guy on the current roster will be there. If Klimenta or Kiffe are good enough for MLS they will make that move to some other team before then, sadly for us. Any guy on the squad is going to be 4 years older and probably past their prime by then. But who knows. Klimenta was on an uphill trajectory and supposedly had interest from MLS teams, I just hope he can be close to the same player after his injury.
Apart from which players are good enough for MLS, you have to wonder who's gonna stick around on $800 a month for 4 years in the hope srfc might be there - Would you?
Welp, not much reason not to. He could use the playing time and is rarely in the 18. Republic announce the loan of Chase Minter to the Tulsa Roughnecks. Club had earlier loaned Matt LeGrassa there— Evan Ream (@EvanReam) August 4, 2016
Doubtful any player on current roster over 20 will make MLS in 2020. Orlando had Molino who was USL MVP make MLS roster and was unused sub 75% of first season...only other players who were retained joined USL in final year knowing MLS was coming or were youth players who are still fringe of roster for MLS...
ICS makes the case (okay, a little light on the analysis) for signing ex-Sounder 2 striker Andy Craven. As noted in the article, given our lack of depth at forward maybe he is worth a good, long look. Republic should sign forward Andy Craven Not counting loan players and Klimenta, we have only 20 on the roster. Current forwards are Iwassa, Pridham and the one-handed Williams.
For some strange reason he has updated his facebook profile pic to an old pic of himself in sac colours... I'm not suggesting anything but...
BREAKING: I'm hearing that Sac Republic are set to sign EPL and English national team veteran Carlton Cole, most recently of Celtic— Evan Ream (@EvanReam) August 7, 2016
No chit? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlton_Cole He's 32 and his best years are surely behind him, but this could be quite the coup, all the same.
Is there a DP sort of rule in USL? Never heard of a max contract sort of thing, because expensive players wouldn't be playing at this level, but who knows how much we would pay him.
