So what we've learned. Teams can draw on opening and closing day. Now just need to fix everything in between for most of the league.
it was around 60 degrees today. Nice Cool evening in the OKC Metro area. Also Rayo OKC went up against OKC vs LA Lakers tonight in the NBA
Seems like the solution is two 4 game seasons. That way your entire schedule would be opening games and closing games. This would work perfectly as long as the NASL has 3 teams for 2017. Sorry, I could not pass this up. I never want a league to fail but trying to get into the MLS on the cheap was a bad league decision. I hope the NASL can find its niche in the soccer landscape.
Belson I believe sits 2,600. Not to mention it can be expanded temporarily to 5K, but the Cosmos where to cheap to do that.
I look for NYCosmos F.O. to blame it on the election protests. Even thought most of that crap is going down in Manhattan. ********, why couldn't they just give the game to Indy Eleven. Their fanbase would have packed Carroll stadium.
"It was on short notice!" "It was on a Sunday night!" "It was in Queens!" Jezum Crow... you have a championship game and you can't even sell it out. I'm surprised the NASL puts all of their money behind the Cosmos, because it's pretty clear that, contrary to what the owners and fans want to say, they lack any real footprint in the New York City area (if anything, Indy is the team of the two that actually make a difference in their market). Otherwise, they would have had some clout to play in a decent venue.
Bullseye. If they mattered to New York, do you seriously think their regular home field couldn't have been made availaible?? "Look, the Cosmos have their championship game at home that night. We don't want their diehards to go all Trump on us. You're moved to the next day/weekend. Sorry."
Besides, maybe the Cosmos didn't try too hard to find a better venue. Why do they need a 10k venue when they haven't got 6k all season?
I've been seeing a lot of people saying it fits 2,600. Maybe that includes standing room. Not sure. What ever the case. It wasn't a sellout and it wasn't shy by 18 either. Both ends where only 2/3's full and there where a few empty spots in the main stands. So I'd say 2K or maybe a little under actually showed up to watch. What's worse is there was quite a bit of people that left after regulation and didn't bother to stay the entire game.
FWIW, Wikipedia puts Belson Stadium's capacity at 2168. And we all know that Wikipedia is never wrong.
Depends if you use the site correctly and check to see if the info has sources. It's a very reliable site of you do that. Problem is people don't go through the trouble of doing that.
The odds of Wikipedia having incorrect information are actually quite low, but if people quote it enough eventually something incorrect will show up. Usually people remember the one time something was wrong more than the 99 times it was right. Really outside of a few highly controversial subjects (i.e. politics, religion, etc.) I would trust Wikipedia without a second thought.
The University puts the seating capacity at 2168 : "the stadium has seating for 2,168 fans" http://www.redstormsports.com/facilities/stjo-belson-stadium.html Should have included the link in my previous post but there it is.
I still want answer from the Cosmos' FO as to why they refused to expand the stadium to 5K for this game. We all know they have the money to do so. Why are they being so frugal all of a sudden?
