Some olds players did better in their 30's than earliar.

    E.g pirlo and Vardy.

    Lets hope he does to.

I love Hosogai, he is so underrated. Hope he can directly promote this season with Stuttgart and be a beast like at Augsburg and Hertha (even his Leverkusen season was not that bad) and gets a ticket for WC2018 !?

    Aren't you @Saku² in disguise? :D

Well, Hosogai is lucky to have a coach like Luhukay who trusts him so much.

He should have been called up for the 2014 World Cup as he was one of the few European based players who
was actually in great form at that time. Instead Zac decided to call up Yamaguchi who was atrocious in the
game against Ivory Coast and who is also to blame why Japan lost to Ivory Coast.

He wasn't in a direct competition with Yamaguchi, his direct competition was Aoyama, and Zac had to choose between him and Aoyama to fill the 4th Defensive midfielder slot, and Zac selected Aoyama.

I doubt anyone cares about Hosogai (tbh I'm pretty indifferent) but watching Stuttgart play Dresden, he is involved in a lot of tough challenges and confrontations...funny to see Großkreutz threaten to throw a döner kebab at a Dresden player who hacked down Hosogai (ok, not really). That extra bit of nastiness might help Yamaguchi, for instance.

Asano is on the bench after the long trip back from Melbourne.

Why should nobody cares about Hosogai ? He is still one of the best def. middlefielders Japan ever has. Never understood why he don`t get a second chance at Hertha. This illness or poor performences are bullshit after my opinion (who was argumented from coach), yes he was bad in this second season but the hole team was. He was solid at Turkey and now he is outstanding at Stuttgart. Maybe the best def. middlefielder in the league....absolutely best marks/ratings.

He is a beast an its a shame someone like him doesn`t get a shot at the NT. He was a beast at Augsburg,he was solid at Leverkusen (even the doesn`t rate him there and he plays only as a LB and he was a beast at his first Hertha season). He is a fighter a bighter and has a incredible passing quote....almost over 90% in every game in the past. He is a guy like Okazaki who never gives up. He has guts like a Bull and this is. Shame that Vahid overlook him and gave Yamaguchi (who was good also the last games) a J2 player who was feeling away from germany. A Hajime Hosogai should always stay above a Yamaguchi. Such guys like Okazaki or Hosogai you need, no matter if they are 30. This both guys looking like they are 20,so agil,so fast and nasty.

For me Hosogai is an outstanding player, very very good. He is running, fighting, fouling, he does everything is needed for the game. Very hard and agressiv player.

Vahid would rate Hosogai higher than Zac did, but he explicitly stated that there are others higher on the list. And Yamaguchi might be lacking in ambition/fortitude but is still a clearly superior player IMO.

Not that I would be against Hosogai getting called up on a situational basis, e.g. away to UAE for the express purpose of fouling the shit out of man-marking Omar Abdulrahman.

In-depth profile on Hosogai, who is a veteran leader of sorts, barking directions in German, Japanese (Asano) and English (Mané) to help younger teammates adapt to VfB's tactics in training. Despite being cast aside unceremoniously at club and national team levels, he's battled through to keep his career going and make the most of his talents. Seems like a guy with a winning attitude.
