My point was more about hoping the highest paid player in MLS IMO should have an all around game not some guy who can just tap in Kaka's passes and put a ton of butts in seats around the league. Carlos Vela would be worth this contract offer but hard to see him leaving Real Sociedad.
http://www.vepsu.fi/item/1324 Lakewood native Isaiah Schafer, formerly of defunct Phoenix FC and Mars Hill College has signed with Vaasan Palloseura, aka VPS, in the Finnish Veikkausliiga (1st Division). After Phoenix FC closed up shop, Schafer spent last Fall as a grad assistant at Mars Hill while chasing trials in Europe. He started his 1st match this weekend, playing CB, and helped orchestrate an important 1-0 victory over Mariehamn. Schafer, by all accounts, played very well despite a few plays stemming from miscommunication. Shafer is signed until the end of the season with a 2-yr. option waiting --- if he impresses.
Anyone else watch the Red Bulls - NYCFC game on Sunday? I thought it was fantastically entertaining. I really root for Red Bulls in those games, I feel for them having a new pretentious rival, so I've enjoyed that series. New teams should never make the play-offs.
Monterrey opened their new digs last night. http://www.estadiodefutbolmonterrey.com/en/index.html Quality stadium porn. I noticed it looked like Emirates on TV and that stands to reason as the designers were the same only it looks like this new one is even better.
the design firm, Populous, designs maybe 95% of all stadiums in the world. Dicks Sporting Goods included, Sports Autority, the new CSU, the CU athletic project ongoing in Boulder, etc...all over the world.
Tonight's Sporting Kansas City - Vancouver Whitecaps match may have been the most exciting MLS match of the season. Dear RFO: This is what winners look like. It is what we want the Rapids to look like.
Just saw this elsewhere but looking for conformation, will Beckerman set the MLS most games played record this season?
Beckerman could hit #1 for an outfield player. Brad Davis and Davy Arnaud aren't far behind him. Looks like Rimando will be #1 overall at some point: Top of the games played list from MLS's site: Hartman, 416 Rimando, 387 Ralston, 378 Beckerman, 371 Cunningham, 365 Davis, 359 Arnaud, 350
Orlando City fans act like other no red cards have ever been given out in the history of man. They are getting tiresome.
Well......they are a loyal bunch.....because they clearly mirror their team with ill discipline. Must be something in the Central FL water that makes them and their team dillusional.
Not Rapids or soccer related, but there's a video and a pic up at my blog of today's USA Pro Challenge stage downtown. http://view-from-the-couch.blogspot.com/2015/08/stage-7-2015-usa-pro-challenge.html That was a lot more fun to watch than the last couple of Rapids games.
So the Union and keeper Mbohli part ways. God, I hope this means MacWaste goes back at the end of the season. I have a feeling we'll be picking 1st or 2nd come SuperDraft time and I'd hate to waste a pick on a back-up GK.
Based on the impact Irwin took last game, I was relieved that we had someone like MacMath on the bench. We don't know if Irwin will have to miss some games. Happy to see him go back at the end of the season, but having a capable backup doesn't suck.
They should be able to pick up a good veteran GK as a backup though ... a #1 or #2 pick would be too steep a cost. However, this is the RFO that we're talking about
On paper maybe? Otherwise, it's the old "that's why they play the games." They have a road game on UniMas this Friday, @the Earthquakes. That one should be interesting.
Except last I'm going by last week's a game (and another game of theirs I saw recently), not paper. The question for me is the quality of opposition- NYCFC are 7th after all. Totally agree that San Jose game should be interesting. I don't get UniMas however, and I'm busy that night, so I'll just have to hear and read about it.
I just saw Jasonma's post in the N&A DisCO thread about one of OC red cards not being rescinded. Poorlando
Minnesota United will get their stadium at a site in St. Paul: http://northernpitch.com/_/minnesot...-for-soccer-stadium-still-waiting-on-mls-r493 I don't live in the Twin Cities any longer, but I'm thrilled about this. This may not be a sexy "downtown" location with an urban skyline surrounding the pitch. However, this location is almost precisely equidistant between the downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Furthermore, the site is crisscrossed by various public transit options, including light rail, and car routes. Good parking, too. And it's within proximity of several colleges and universities (even walking distance to some of them). I predict great success.
I've no interest in the U.S. game this weekend. Some interest in the Euro qualifiers. No Rapids game, no EPL, no Bundasliga games. I guess the Columbus - Dallas game will be OK, not too much at stake though. I always hate non World Cup Qualifying international breaks.
I agree, over the years I've grown to love club over country by a country mile. Any more the Nats feel like the team of the NBCSN soccer facebook page comment section than it remotely resembles my club. But I guess Euronoobs need a team of their own since they are too scared to get into the MLS fray.
