Should be more good news for most of the NASL home openers yet to come. Not a bad start at all for the new season.
I'm pretty impressed, will like to see how Jacksonville's attendance normalizes over the year, but great way to start the season.
A total of 44,479 fans attended five league matches on Saturday, setting a new league record for attendance in a single match week. The records didn’t stop there. Jacksonville Armada FC broke the NASL Modern Era attendance record, drawing 16,164 fans at EverBank Field. Armada FC’s first goal, scored by Jemal Johnson, came just 12 seconds into the match, setting a record for the fastest goal scored in the league’s Modern Era. Not too far away, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers set a record of their own, playing in front of its largest ever Modern Era crowd – 11,691 – at Lockhart Stadium.
Congrats to Jacksonville Armada and their supporters on setting modern NASL attendance record of 16,164
I say a tweet last night claiming 6,7?? last night, but I cant find it now. But yes NASL did report the 44,479 number.
It was a fantastic exciting game, watched it on ESPN 3. If a team were to lose, that's the way to do it. Still would've been great for the Strikers to put a few in the back of the net, crowd was itching for it. If next game would be 7-8k, that would be a huge success for a 2nd game IMO.
Goes to show how much of an impact an involved ownership group can make. Traffic virtually ran that franchise into the ground, it's nice to see that it appears as though it can still be resurrected!
Thank goodness he didn't try and play like he said he would. Not sure now much NYC will get out of Raul. Didn't expect much TBH, but it may be less than that.
Jax is playing the rest of their games in the 8500-seat Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, next door to EverBank field, so the 16k will only be a one-time deal. That said, they've sold more than 5k season tickets so I would expect most of their crowds going forward to be in the 7-8k range.
This is such a smart way to build interest in the club. Sure, they'd probably hit 15-16k a few more times if they played in EverBank, but selling out the smaller park consistently looks better and makes tickets more desirable. EverBank is always there for a big event, but keeping things small at first is a great way to build toward sustainability without overexposing the product, which could hurt that goal in the long run.
Should be a pretty good number at TB, if they are telling the truth. Less than 500 tickets left for Tomorrow's Home Opener! Don't be left out!http://t.co/NNBot2mutp / (727)222-2000 pic.twitter.com/8ASRMQxmUr— Ralph’s Mob (@RalphsMob) April 10, 2015
The stadium is listed at about 7227 capacity but the previous owners apparently came to a lesser number when counting available seats on their own, around 6700 I think. Add in the new seats accross the field (1500) and you get 8200 total capacity.
Well according to the Indy Eleven facebook there are only a few hundred tickets left for tomorrow. That puts three teams at over 10k in the same week, has that happened in the NASL before?
