http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2015/11/10/orlando-city-forward-cyle-larin-named-2015-att-rookie-year As if it was ever in doubt, what with 17 goals and all. He got 96% of the club personnel poll, 97% of the media poll, and 82% of the player poll.
He was, by far, the best of the rookie crop this year! Kind of what we all hoped Danny Mwanga would turn into. My question is: Who did 18% of the players actually vote for other than Larin? There really was not anyone even close to him.
larin makes it 2 in a row for canada- YIPEE! last years winner was tesho akendele of dallas- there is some hope for us that we can make it into the top 100 FIFA ranking by 2016- qualifying for WC 2018 seems still like a long-shot with a group of young, but promising players- we now have some MLS quality players- will johnson in portland, russell teibert, kianze froese and sam adekugbe in vancouver, jonathan osorio, jordan hamilton and ashtone morgan in TFC, marcel dejong in SKC, Maxim Tissot and Kyle Bekker in montreal- not regular starters or household names in MLS, but young with some promise of a brighter future for canadian soccer- more like WC 2022 IMO- getting canadian players labeled as domestic players for US teams should be a major goal and would really help our growth (US players with a canadian team count as domestic; canadian players with a US team count as international which makes for an unfair playing table for a US-Canada league)
The weirdest part is the shout out to Brek Shea. Brek Shea becoming a wise seasoned vet makes me feel so old. http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2015/...rin-credits-push-brek-shea-rookie-year-honors
You would need to change the title but if so, here is the defender of the year - and I would say WELL deserved. http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2015/...er-laurent-ciman-named-2015-mls-defender-year Laurent Ciman
Exactly! MLS shouldn't sign good Canadian players, obviously. It should sign and play the crap ones to help Canadian soccer.
Incorrect sarcasm aside, Cyle was good enough to be playing in Europe and had plenty of interest. Would he have done better there than MLS? maybe, maybe not. But, he wasn't developed by any MLS clubs. He's not the gap in the system that MLS was supposed to fix. The blue chip prospect would always get their chances somewhere else.
